Who are you voting for in 2016?

I am registered as an independent, but I consider myself a "Libertarian". In 2012 I voted for Ron Paul and in 2016 I will be voting for Rand Paul. Let me hear who you are liking for 2016.

Please no flaming, this is a thread for who you are likely to vote for if they were your partys political choice or not. This is not a thread to point fingers at someone else for being apart of a political party.

It's too bad he'll never win.

Please explain how he's nothing like his father when they share many of the same ideals. I'm guessing this is just you spouting off without any real knowledge of his stance? Rand is the best option. There's no way a Dem. will win the Presidential elections this coming year. If they do i'll be surprised. Then again, anything can happen in a year+ time, and to be quite honest, I really wouldn't doubt it if something did. Majority of our elected officials just need to kick the bucket already.

I will say this though. Anything is better than Hillary. If Rand doesn't get the nomination, i'll vote Bernie. I (regrettably) registered Repub. years ago, but fuck no will I be voting for anyone else other than Rand, but if he doesn't, i'm swinging Bernie. I don't trust the rest of the Repub's or Dem's as far as I can throw them.

I'm a libertarian as well, and I'd probably prefer Rand Paul.

That being said I have no interest in selecting someone to rule over 320 million people.

I'd likely vote for Bernie Sanders, but Rand Paul is also a possibility.

We'll see as more of their views come out and who is on the final ticket. I am not a big fan of Hillary (that is an understatement.)

    ^^^

To the contrary, I would argue the Democrats have a bigger chance of winning this election. If the GOP does not choose a left winged Republican, it is unlikely they will have a chance. There are less-and-less Republicans among younger voters and Republicans need to grab the independent and right-leaning Democrat vote for any chance to win. They will not win based on the Republican voting basis alone.

Issues like Marijuana, Abortion, and Gay Marriage (which will be decided by SCOTUS this June) could destroy any chances they have. While gay marriage may be ruled in favor (I imagine it will) this June, the pushing for policies to "protect" people's religious beliefs via discrimination will hurt candidates. Hell, look at Indiana's Religious Freedom Law (whatever the hell it was called), a few GOP candidates came straight out (Cruz, maybe Rubio) and said it was 100% alright. The Republican party is being painted more-and-more as the party of old white bigoted men.

Currently, I would say the GOP members that have a chance at the nomination are: Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, and Rand Paul. People like Cruz and Carson have absolutely no chance, the Tea Partiers stand no way in hell in winning a national election.

The republican field has yet to really provide a candidate that has a good chance of winning the election. The GOP candidate that could win will need to be one that can attract votes from across the party line.

Honestly, regardless of how similar his ideals are to his father. If Rand was president he undoubtedly would at least reflect a trace of his fathers suggestions. Rand knows a lot of his followers are coming from his dad, and I believe he is a good enough politician to follow what the most people want him to do.

Thus, voting for Rand would be more beneficial than trying to vote for the more preferable Libertarian or Independent candidate. While it shouldn't be so, in the United States, voting knowledge is hilariously difficult to find. This means that your vote counts more towards a larger party candidate. A large handful of independents and libertarians could make a substantial difference in the outcome of the race. So ask yourself before voting, not which candidate you want the most, but which candidate needs your vote the most to at least get some good stuff done.

I'm pretty involved in libertarian circles, I don't think most would consider Rand a 'true' libertarian. He's nothing like his father as Nero mentioned, just libertarian leaning at best. The points brought up in the article are concerns a lot of people share.

But to be fair you could take all candidates and write up a list of psychopathic policies they support that aim to expand the power of the state.

I don't know, I think Bernie has a chance. Many individuals are wary of Clinton and as of now he's one of the only other potential Democratic candidates (there is Webb from VA and the Gov of Maryland, but they haven't announced nor do I know enough about their platform to really comment.) He's a social democrat so quite far left from the American standpoint, but he openly speaks out against wall street & has stances that could attract the vote.

As for Rand, we'll see. He's trying to paint himself as someone who can appeal all across the republican party (going after tea partiers and libertarians), but I really do not see any of the current republican candidates winning.

True but Rand has defined the reasons why he votes one way or another. As you can see from this chart http://chicksontheright.com/blog/it...didate-in-modern-history-may-be-can-you-guess Rand is definitely the most conservative candidate among the GOP field. As for the military spending increase he vows for "Peace through Strength" which was Ronald Reagans philosophy (the man who ended the cold war). Overall I honestly think he is the best candidate. I believe he appeals to both side of the GOP party pretty good. If you want to look at voting records I would check out some of the other candidates and see the dirt they got.

Edit: Undoubtedly I wouldn't consider him a real Libertarian like Gary Johnson, but that being said hes the next best thing that could possibly win the Republican ticket.
