    Where is the Internet?

Just been wondering, could it be in a box at the top of Big Ben or under the sea?

These are the questions that don't let me sleep at night.

^thats the internet now you know, go to sleep.
But seriously i have always wondered that too, like is it just a bunch of computers that communicate with each other? Or is there really like a big box somewhere that controls everything? I would also like to know the answer to this question. But i do not think that this is anything to lose sleep over.

    Where is the Internet?

It's just, as pointed above, a type of communication between computers.

    Where is the Internet?

But then, where are all of the webpages saved. Is there a limit that we will reach, where we will no longer be able to make webpages? The internet cannot have an infinite size, can it?

    Where is the Internet?

    Obvious troll is obvious.

The internet isn't a thing, it is an entity. A large internetworked group of computers, servers, and other networking pieces.

    Where is the Internet?

Think of The Internet as one wide area network (WAN for short) where it is a wide area network with lots of computers, servers and what not connected together.

    Where is the Internet?

My bad. It would be better to define the internet as a bunch of servers communicating together, rather than ordinary computers.

    Where is the Internet?

Well sort of. The servers make the information and content available, so to see it, regular computers have to connect to those servers.

The internet is called the world wide web for a reason, too. It's like a giant interconnecting web where each "connection" between strands are computers, be it regular or servers. Servers are more formal in the sense that they host large websites and content, but normal computers can also host content over the web in the form of a small webserver, a gameserver, or even something as small as a live stream (although the live stream communicates with an external server which in turn broadcasts it).

It's a really cool idea, genius in my opinion :)

If it's still a bit hard to understand, think of it as a phoneline. When you call up your buddy, you're connecting your phone to his so you guys can talk and exchange information. It's the same with the internet, if you think of your buddy's phone as the server and your phone as the user. You're connecting to him to share information...The internet is the same thing just on a larger scale.

    Where is the Internet?

The Internet and the World Wide Web are two different things.

    Where is the Internet?

It's pretty damn close to infinite.

With the addition of IPv6 there are 3.4×10^38 addresses - this would mean WELL over a billion addresses per person on the planet, so to that extent it's infinite -> a website is basically an IP address.

In terms of actual space, it's also essentially limitless, as hosts are continuously adding more and more storage.

Although, why would it be finite in the first place?

    --------------------------------------------------

    Edit:

Just imagine that you connect to your ISP and everyone else also connects to their own ISP, now all ISPs connect to each other and you create a web between all the users between the ISPs.

It isn't this straight forward, but it's the general idea behind it - you form the web, so there is no central internet

If you're really interested cisco offers networking courses that give you a good understanding on all this.
