tl;dr - extreme blackhat internet group (infamous for hacking zezima, taking down XBL and PSN as well as Destiny and others) had some names leaked. 17-year old was sentenced to 2 years of babysitting while he helps their anti cyber-crime division in Finland.

 

Fuck Lizard Squad and what they did. Needs to be longer.

 

Hard to believe the punishment is so light, He'll probably end up getting a job out of it in the long run too. Similar to Jacmob.

Really sad he was convicted on what.. 50,000 offences?? Bomb threats, money laundering, and yet they just tell him "alright, go run along and play, but be nice now"

It seems light but the deal is likely contingent on him being able to bring down other members of lizard squad, who will be offered the same deal. If this ends up being the case we should see them in them in the spot light in the near future.

 

Despite the fact that he's a minor his sentence is still a joke. Hopefully other members that have been caught (Vinnie Omarie for example) and other members when they're caught in the future won't be rewarded for being skids.

 

He was even younger when he participated in that, sentence length is justified imo

 

Sorry but I find it funny the only person to think its a justice sentese in now banned granted I didn't take the time to see what the ban was for.

Anyways I agree that's very light of a sentence even for a 17 year old but as stated im sure he will be helping take down other parts of the group.

 

If this were in the states I'm sure the verdict would have been much more satisfying. Hopefully we get to see one of lizard squads members persecuted by the US.

 

I find this to be quite pathetic of their government tbh

I don't see it confirmed that he actually did obtain any sensitive information personally. Taking down websites and game servers, big deal honestly. He's a little fish in a big pond imo and their government is wasting their time putting him on their pay roll. If he were someone with some sort of legitimate skill, more than others in the same "field," then hiring him would be justified, but I don't see this as one of those cases.

 

Glad he got caught and is getting punished, however I feel the punishment he should be getting should be much harsher.

 

He is lucky he got off so easy.

 

Reading through these replies I kinda find it odd i mildly disagree but I gotta ask, what would you guys have preferred as a sentence? Major jail time for hacking? As far as I know he didnt steal money (as far as i know) or anything, he was just a dick to alot of people and corporations, not worthy of jail time, although I still think the sentence is light.

 

The way they brag makes me feel like they are such child's that do some serious gutsy adult shit. The sentence is really light, I'm quite surprised.

 

The reasoning for his sentence being so light (don't quote me on it, I studied law for a year but I can't say I listened very much ) is because cyber-crimes have a very unclear law written about them, therefore what I BELIEVE to have happened is he has been given the maximum sentence he can be given in a magistrates (or whatever the Finland equivalent is.) Personally I feel this should have been dealt with in a court with much higher power, and I feel that age should not come into play for crimes. (look at the cases of Mary Bell and Jon Venables.) But then again, I'm not the Government

 

His punishment is justified, maybe this thing he's doing in Finland will help him change his way of thinking.

 

His punishment wouldve been the same in the US probably, I'm sure this deal is contingent on him helping them catch the rest of LS.

Reading these replies its easy to see most of you have never been in trouble before. Consider a few things...
1. Was this his first offence? The degree of punishment leans me to believe so.
2. He's a minor and other countries dont destroys kids future for fucking up once. The united states over punishes people/children.
3. Its a 2 year suspended sentence! Which means if they catch him pissing in a bush he could be sent to prison. Finland is giving him a chance to reform before blowing his future up. Not to mention he will be closely monitored from now on. Red flags will be waving every time he touches a computer.

Lets all be honest with each other, we've all had dreams of being big time hackers or computer guys. I know ive dreamed of hacking runescape and duping billions and making thousands of dollars. I know its sad but at least im willing to admit it. Looking at this from his perspective he probably thought being apart of lizard squad was cool. Gave him some E-penis... Hopefully he learns and realizes it was stupid and puts his skills to work for good.

 

Companies wanting to press charges would have to do so through a civil court, which is a different kettle of fish and the only real charge you can give in a civil court is compensation which is (9 times out of 10) in the form of money, if a person hasn't got the money to give, you can't get blood out of a stone they say.
