I have made a difficult decision in my two weeks of absence. In the next few days, I will shut down some of my businesses on Sythe. I will keep my skilling and MoneyPak redemption services active, but everything else will close. My activity on Skype will also decrease. Why am I doing this? Here are a few reasons:
First, while Sythe has been very profitable for me, the 75 hours I spend on Skype a week are distracting, stressful, and plainly better spent elsewhere; and while it’s possible that I might make $500 on a good day of swapping or dicing, few days are that profitable. Additionally, I have lost about $3000 in the last month due to bans, scams, and other mishaps, and losses hurt. While gold prices are high, it’s probably worth selling what I have and locking in profits that I can spend elsewhere in the future. In short, the additional profits Sythe will bring me this year do not, for me, outweigh the physical and emotional costs associated with running my current businesses.
Second, I have better prospects in real life. Without going into too much detail, I am not in a place where a few extra dollars will make or break me, but I am in a place where a few (hundred) well-written resumes and cover letters will probably land me a fairly good job. I want to concentrate on doing well for myself in the future, and Sythe simply is not the most profitable means of doing so.
Third, I’m returning to school shortly. Concentrating on studies, relationships, and other enjoyable things is more fun and rewarding than afking on Skype. I’d rather be there than here. However, I really, truly enjoy the Sythe community. I’m very happy to be part of the CDT team, and with a little more involvement in the right places, I don’t doubt that I could one day hold other ranks as well. I plan to stay engaged and to contribute more in less time than I’ve been doing. Probably what this means is I’ll be around for an hour or two or so each day, actively involved in whatever is worth reading and commenting on. I’m actually pretty excited about this idea since it’s more fun and enjoyable, for me, than my current setup.
And, just to be clear, I have no intention of scam-quitting, though doing so seems to be all the rage these days (fk coinking). My reputation and peace of mind are worth more than a few hundred dollars.
So yeah, that’s about it. Not the most crafted piece of literature you’ll read today (I hope), but that just about sums up where I’m at right now. See you around!

Thanks to some of the people who've helped me through a lot on Sythe. I can't name all of you, but special thanks to Farcast, Visci, the whole mod staff, and R2P for getting my feet on the ground. The site has been headed in a much better direction these past few months, and I hope to see it keep doing so.
