Is there any valid reason for gun control? If so, how do you impose your policies without compromising the defense of law abiding citizens? Been thinking about this a lot lately. Your thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Switzerland has one of the lowest homocide rates in the world yet one of the highest rates of gun ownership, including fully automatic military rifles which are kept in houses as part of the country's militia. That's the argument against gun control in the States, a place where guns are already and have been rampant since the dawn of the country. In a country like Canada that has significantly fewer guns in circulation among the citizens, gun control is a better counter-measure against gun violence as a whole. The only time lax gun laws are a good method of prevention gun violence is when there are too many guns to control in the first place.
It's intellectually bankrupt to continue holding the hypothesis that guns = gun crime when significant empirical evidence to the contrary exists

I agree with you. It's almost cliche at this point to say "criminals don't follow the law, so gun laws don't make sense", but good logic is good logic regardless.
What we might loosely construe from the limited NYPD data is that officers (70% of the time) are in fact already “point-shooting” in a very real sense, and that it could be the reason why hit probabilities appear so dismal.
