Are you happier when you are or are not playing Runescape?

Most people during their Runescape career take long "quitting" breaks. Eventually you always get this urge to check out RS again. Runescape keeps players inside hours on end, craving those new levels or gold. It makes people anti-social. Would you say you feel happier and more social in general when you are playing and binging runescape or are you happier when you are on your break and away from RS and RWT?

I personally feel like I get anti-social when I begin to start playing RS again and get active in gaming communities. I'm curious as how others interpret their habits.

 

I mean you can communicate with people on discord, skype, teamspeak etc while playing runescape, you don't have to be non social if you don't want to be.

 

What is your definition of anti-social?

Because if its the same as the DSM one, I'd say that's a very abnormal reaction.

 

Definitely more happy when I'm not playing. I basically fall off the face of the earth while my friends wonder where I've gone.

 

IRL social life takes a severe impact, I'm always on teamspeak with friends and what not though, so I wouldn't say I'm less happy. If anything It's got it's own place in life for me. I try to keep contact with irl friends even though 95% of my awake time is spent on scape

 

All my friends work full-time or have internships etc which results into most of them hanging out in the weekend. So I just chill with friends in the weekends and play Rs during the week (evenings) or when everyone went home again.

And for me I have my moments that I quitt/play way less but I always know it's temporarely, you almost never quitt this game for good

 

You can play runescape and have a social life at the same time, I don't see why it has to be black or white. I attend university, play runescape and go out at night every week. Though the only thing I do on runescape is PK for a few hours when I'm not busy, its defintely not a priority of mine. Obviously I choose hanging out with friends > a game, and if there is a test coming up, studying > runescape.

 

When I play RS I tend to no life. And now being in my mid 20's, with a job, kid house to pay for and girlfriend I just never really have the time to do it. Back in the day I wouldn't care less if I spent 2 weeks straight playing. I know in my head, I'd love to play for hours on end, but I can't. And if I do, I tend to get really depressed and shit.

I've found the more time I spend away from RuneScape the more happier I am. But yes, it always sucks me in. I actually fucking hate RS these days, but I still end up playing it because I've played it for so many years.

 

This is such a good post. I wish I didn't play this game, but the side money is there. I dO enjoy building accounts but I always get bored really fast and it's about the money.

I've spent alot of time out of runescape and always end up back... if i'm honest it's helped me out, proper!

I used to go out a hell of a lot drinking and ended up a borderline alcoholic at a young age, now that i'm past that stage and i've got a girlfriend a decent job and a decent social life i feel that runescape has given me a reason to not just go out and get fucked out my nut.
I do still go out at weekends however all the pros in my life keep me from going off the rails.

[i realise runescape is only one of the smaller pros but, it keeps you distracted!]

It is of course different for other people who may be in different situations. If somebody has a bad home life for example they could end up using games like runescape to escape reality and become addicted that way, this of course would end up in serious mental health issues i'd imagine because they would seclude themself from the outside world - but they would be happy nonetheless. Happy, but mental. haha.

TLDR; Yes i'd say i'm probably happier when playing lool.

 

i love runescape i just take breakes every month so i keeps fun, i play some CS:GO

 

I used to play alot, now i barely play and just run services here and there.

 

I do have a lot of fun playing runescape and it can be very addicting for me at times, but i know when to limit myself and take a break
Real life is a lot more important !

 

I hate runescape.

That being said, I recognize that I am in a position to make an amount of income that is realistically inaccessible in any other way for someone my age. I'm just taking advantage of an opportunity, regardless if it is enjoyable or not.

 

Depends on what you do. If you play casually, it's relaxing. When you're in it to make money, it gets tedious and annoying, but what job doesn't over time?

 

I'm usually big in the games during the winter because I don't want to go out all the time in the snow .
In the summer less than 5% of my time is spent on he computer as I can go out on the boat and what not all the time because it's nice out .

 

Probably when I'm not playing. I haven't been playing much with others anymore but back in the day when I had a group of friends to play with it was awesome.
