    What's your crypto story?

Started in early spring of 2017. I was working as a trading analyst at the bank so the concepts of exchanges and trading were relatively easy to pick up. Bought my first BTC and ETH on coinbase.

Traded shitcoins on Bittrex for a while. I remember buying REDD coin at 5 sats and making my first 10x when it hit 50 sats. Also, at one point had over 10million XVG coins bought at 17 sats but sold them at 50 sats each. After this I transferred all my savings to a Canadian exchange QuadrigaCX (yes, all my savings because I'm a degenerate gambler with unlimited risk appetite). Continued to flip shitcoins for good profit for the next month or so. Got massacred in BTC value by holding alts / ETH and investing in ICOs during the BTC bull rally from 3k to 20k. But then came the alt bull run in Dec/Jan and all my pain was rewarded with profits like I've never seen. Everything in my portfolio did a 10x or more in a span of two-three weeks. But in the back of my mind I did know that we were in a bubble, yet every next day my coins just kept making double digit gains.

Jan 2018 - a week before the crash, I quit my job after managing to cashed out my initial + good amount to live off of for a while. But still got greedy and held the rest thinking the market will reach over 1 Trillion in 2018.

Wanted to cash out more but somehow fell for the "take a break, go outside get some fresh air and just hodl" meme. So I decide to reward myself and spent the next two months in Europe and Asia while not looking at Crypto markets at all. This was another mistake, as those two months the market bounced back a few times, presenting another opportunity to sell.

I guess I got too emotionally attached to my coins and the Youtubers / Subreddits were all echo chambers of what investors wanted to hear, that my coin will continue to recover to ATHs.

I was also pretty burnt out from trading every night the whole year while working a 9-5 office job, barely getting 5 hours of sleep a day. I got lazy and complacent and part of me just didn't want to bother with transferring my coins from cold storage to the exchanges.

In hindsight I shouldn't have underestimated a bear market & and should have hedged better using BTC and USDT to protect my gains...

But I realized I don't want to be so hard on myself and be content that I still made a good amount of money at a young age. This was a good lesson in market cycle emotions and I will be looking for the next opportunities in life.

A very relatable story my friend.

I managed to trade my way up from around 0.15btc to my first bitcoin. I did this mainly on small exchanges where there is illiquidity and large spreads. I knew going past 1btc down this road this wouldn't be as great an option anymore. When i reached my goal of 1 whole bitcoin, btc was worth $3500. Unfortunately, I decided to cash out. I watched btc climb to 5k, 7k, 10k, 15k++. I've always been very bearish on BTC (hence the early sell).

I don't think i've ever made a trade that's profited me more than 10% lol.
However, I did decide to purchase back btc with the $3500 i had saved in USDT. I was back to almost where i started in btc value, discouraging. Reassured by past experience, I picked up trading again. I switch exchange from Poloniex to Binance, positively impacting my trading as the fees were minimal in comparison. I worked out that i gave up pretty much my entire portfolio in fees every month to Poloniex because my trade volume was so high. Such a regret not switching sooner.

Well, I made some decent trades to say the least.

I did get hit during the crash, as most people did. Losing $5-10k a day was not fun. I swallowed my regrets and hopes of a bounce and managed to sell the vast majority of my portfolio off when btc was around $12-14k. Could have gone a lot worse; i.e. my good friend who got me into trading crypto is still hodling his NXT (which he's all in on) which he's seen plummet 90% (I did tell him to sell out at least a bit but he's arrogant lol).

Only 10%? Wow you are a pretty conservative trader in Crypto. Most people were targeting for 10x , even 100x gor 1000x gains. But you were smart to see the bubble popping and sold at a relatively high price.

I understand your friend too well. It's easy to get attached to the coin and you think you have done your research on why it will go to the moon. It's also easy to look at the past price action during a bull market and think, yeah it always recovers and hits an ATH, it will definitely repeat again. But there comes a point where there is no more new buyers and all the people shilling it have already bought into it. Who knows, maybe one day all alts will moon like that again. But right now I can't see this happening with current levels of interest and adoption. Though maybe it's just because I am in the depression stage of the Wall St. cycle.
