What makes Runescape so addicting?

If you dont want to be addicted, just buy an xbox 360 and go online and play with real friends. It works for a lot of people.

 

I don't think there's a simple reason why I still play rs, looking at a few polls like 75% of all experienced players find the game boring but there's something that keeps us playing it... subliminal messages if you ask me

 

I'm thinking its the fact you can't let go of something you've put so much effort and time in to. As soon as you quit all your efforts are wasted, I guess people don't want to think or feel that..

 

In my opinion, to start with, When your first start playing Runescape, you're basically like this:
"Aawww, long tutorial, what do I do here?(...)Shit Graphics I quit." Then, a few months later, something happens at school, work, life and you think about it and end up finishing the tutorial. I think when you feel bad in real life, Runescape has the capability to make you feel good and powerful because you can become "rich n' famous" and you can't stop because you're becoming even more e-cool and then there's always the option to say you're athletic, pretty, popupal when you're just a anti-social fugly fatty.
I quit playing Runescape in 2007 and the only reason why I'm browsing here it's because I bot for extra $.

 

The huge playerbase.

That there's always someone to train with or new people to meet.

 

Well to start off with its no where near as addictive as it was when I started but with me its always wanting to wield that armour or wear that skill cape. Finally be able to buy that armour! Bascially stuff like that....but I wouldn't say its addictive anymore, maybe for new fags.

 

Yeah that's mostly it, and the more you play the more you achieve and the harder it is to let go.

I've played Runescape for maybe a total of I'm guessing 5,000 hours???
I wouldn't like someone telling me "hey well you just wasted a little over 200 days of your life on nothing"

 

i think its bcoz everyone keeps one leveling and seeing they are becomeing good at the game then the levels start taking longer and longer but u dont mind bcoz u just want the 99

99s is why everybody keeps pushing to become better

 

I think it's because I am always striving for my next goal, or trying to get another 99. It's weird, I've quit 5 times over 4 years but I always come back.

Levelling and skillcapes.

 

For me, it's definitely setting goals for yourself and wanting to finish them. Not only dull and useless stuff like a skillcape, but setting stuff that will make your life easier, like a strong weapon, access turmoil, etc. It's definitely what's given me the inspiration to keep going, etc.

 

Cause you can make some1's suck ur skills in PVP/BH worlds I love that..

1.The feeling when leveling up.
2.Trying to beat your friends.
3.Reaching a goal for another goal.
4.The feeling of being better.
5.Just talking to people.

 

I Agree, This is the best anti-addictive thing too do, but if you play too much then it's the opposite.

 

What makes it soo addict to me is the pking =P

Crap,since i first started to play rs i tried dozens of games but i always end up on rs.
My all time goal was to get 99 in every skill,thats whats keeping me in.
Atm i'm almost 2300 overall.
