    Terrariums/Aquariums?

Anybody have any aquariums with fish in them or terrariums with either purely plants or any other cool things like lizards or other reptiles? I think it'd be cool to show pictures or updates about how the little ecosystems are doing.

I've currently taken an interest in terrariums and am thinking about constructing a purely plant terrarium for my room as decoration. I'll show pictures if I end up doing it.

This is my turdlette. He is smaller than a half dollar and isn't expected to grow much more. The aquarium is pretty much empty and I want to give him more things to do. What should I add?

    Terrariums/Aquariums?

I had some pet fish that lived for a few years. I never had an issue remembering to feed them or anything, but it was a pain in the ass to change the water in the tank.

@ Giddy, if he is smaller than a half dollar, it seems the tank is pretty small. What are the dimensions & what is the piece you already have in it?

@xier0, it is 16"x8"x10". It is a very small tank but it seems to work for the time being. The piece I have in the tank is a floating dock which looks like the pic below.

Put in some little sea rocks or something, some pebbles at the bottom maybe. Add some dry plants that don't require a ton of watering unless you don't mind watering them. Honestly just scenery, if you want to give him something to do maybe get him a buddy?

    Terrariums/Aquariums?

I had an aquarium of tropical fish but I couldn't find a mix of them that wouldn't eat each other no matter how hard I tried (I wanted more than basic, small ones like danio/danyo whatevers) but sharks don't keep well together and a mix of small and ******** doesn't work either in my experience. So gave the fish that were remaining away and the aquarium is in my shed, lol. Plus you'll need a relatively huge tank if you want more than 5/6 fish. The water is a pain in the jacksie.. keeping the ammonia levels down, PH levels correct and temperature constant. Especially when you clean out the tank by syphoning the gravel and replace a large body of water at one time. Plants in said tank created a lot of algae, made the water look manky and smelled.. also meant I had loads of small snails in the water.

Reptiles are pretty easy to keep, but they're boring to watch tbh. Gecko's are fun and you can get already made set-ups for them at most pet stores. Most contain a water hole, large logs to climb, a lamp, somewhere for them to hide and some way of access to feed them crickets without causing a mess or spilling them everywhere.

I'd potentially add some low maintenance water plants and pick out the snails. Perhaps see the interactions between the turtles and small fish and whether or not they're compatible. I once had water frogs and some small fish.

I had green anoles and a long tail lizard. At the time I didn't have the special way to add crickets so that was a pain trying to ensure the lizards didn't escape while feeding them.

I had like 4 turtles. One died, and we gave the others back to the shop because the turtles were fighting each other for some reason. The tank it was in (much larger than the current one) unfortunately broke as I went to clean it. For now Its in a shitty ole' tank I had when it was a baby. This is my sisters turtle btw. She doesn't take care of it at all lol. The tank is really cloudy with flash on for some reason.

My brother bought the tank and a bunch of lights for very cheap.

You can probably find anything if you live in a populated area though

Yeah him and I had a whole discussion on it. I think I'll be doing both a sealed plant terrarium for plants and buying myself an ecosphere.

Ahh gotcha. Don't know much about it, but it looks actually really neat. Should you get one in the coming month or so, let me know how you like it. My mom loves plants, so I was thinking about buying it for her for christmas ^-^
