What is a good age to get married?

I’m 26 and am kind of on the fence of marrying my girlfriend. My buddies say that is way too young and I would regret it. What is a good age in your opinion?

Perhaps you haven't been with each other long enough? I suggest maybe find out how she feels about the topic, and find out how both of your long-term goals align.


Either way, it comes down to communication & planning things out. Don't jump into anything because others around you are doing it or you'll regret your choice eventually.

 

I don’t think age (within reason) should have any bearing on when you choose to get married. That isn’t what is important. Mid twenties is a very very common age for marriage. A lot of people get married in their early twenties.

Focus on what matters & what’s important.. and make your decision based on that.

 

As others have said, it does NOT matter what age you get married at, at all. How long have you been dating? Can you picture yourself with this person for the rest of your life? Kids? House? Jobs? Share some details with us so we can help you out.

Also, if you are on the fence...why? Is it just because of your buddies telling you it's weird or do you not picture yourself happy as being a married person?

 

There isn't a "good age" for getting married when it's about when you and your partner are ready. However, I do not personally believe in marriages. Just another religious ancient social construct we need to eradicate expeditiously.

For about a year. The thing is we fight and argue often. I'm worried that if we do end up getting married things will get worse. She claims she won't divorce me even if it does get to that point because she doesn't believe in divorce. I feel like I'm pretty young and it is a big commitment. More than anything, I don't want to marry someone who will change who they are after the fact.

 

You should try and talk to her about how you feel. To be honest though...you're going to fight. Not a single relationship is without its hurdles. My SO and I fight pretty much every other day even about little things. It's not about the fights though. It's whether you love that person enough to put up with all those fights and annoying flaws. If not then that might be an issue you need to bring up

 

I agree with this. Know the person, I’ve been in a relationship for a year now and the thought has come across but I’m not 100% on it. The longer you’re with a person the more information you’ll have on your decision.

 

There is no specific age. I believe it to be not a good idea to rush things though, unless you are 100% sure of your decisions.

 

i believe 26-30 is the perfect age to get married , less than that i dont agree with.

 

Your friends personal opinion and your personal opinion are two different things, think of it as no different to having kids.

Just because your friend says he wants kids at 16, and you feel you should have them at 30 does that make any difference for you? Of course not, his life doesn't affect you and the same way applies friends to you.

What you need to remember is you might have something great with the person you feel you could take the next step with, but the problem with that being said is that it can be expensive and causes problems so you need to be sure you are willing to take that step with a person you cannot live without. This whole part of not being able to live without the person, you need to understand that marriage is a life commitment (although most don't last a lifetime)

 

That is a subjective question and you're going to get a wide variety of answers. If YOU want to marry your girl then go right ahead. You have my blessing.

 

Yeah I agree with most others on this thread, the age of when you get married isn't important at all.

Just make sure your goals align with your partners, you both must want the same thing.

My question to you is why are you on the fence?, Don't give in to pressure make sure this is something you really want because it is a BIG decision.

 

I got married 8months ago, when I was 22. After being 2 years with my girlfriend we decided to take that big step

I do not regret it at all, but if I could go back I wouldn’t do it again to be able to enjoy more of my own privacy and way of doing things

 

I`m 26 aswell and I don`t see myself getting merried anytime soon lol. In my country ppl usually get married at 25-30 tho

 

I would say between 28 and 35

I'm 27 at the moment - most of the people I know who got married before 25 probably would have waited with heinsight

 

Don't listen to your friends when it comes to these type of things - they don't know the way you feel for her or what she means to you. I got married at 21 and I don't regret it at all, I was due to get engaged but things changed and we somehow just tied the knot fully. Everyone's age of marriage is going to be different, depending on how far they're in their relationship + financial status.

If you found someone you can see/imagine the rest of your life with and your financial status can handle it, what's holding you back?
