    Out of all these ignorant "40-45 defence turmoil pure" this is the best suggestion. 30 defence will add a few levels to combat but not half as much as 40 does. Once you hit 30 defence every level from then on will count towards your combat. You'll be a high "main" level as is, adding to 31+ defence will get you destroyed by mains.
