What do you think of this gaming desktop build?

I've always wanted to build a gaming computer so I can actually play games, which I can't really do on my laptop or any previous one I've owned. I know absolutely nothing about computers, though. The boys over at /r/buildmeapc put together a list with the budget I have. Just wanted to know what you guys think, if there's anything you'd change about it and what not.

    http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/682kxr

I just started saving for it. I've been putting it off but now I can't because my laptop is on it's final days. I think sticking around the price of that desktop now would be nice, but in all honesty I could go higher, it would just take longer for me to save (I only make ~$400 a week) and need to start saving for school as soon as possible so I'm trying to budget myself while still getting a decent computer.

Also, if anyone could toss me some ideas on a decent monitor and keyboard that would be nice as well. I already have a mouse (Logitech G502) which I think would do just fine and Turtle Beach PX21 headset, which is intended for my PS4 but I'm sure it would work fine on my PC. If not then my Turtle Beach X12's do.

Also, keep in mind that I'm Canadian. So I generally get fucked hard with the US conversion rates.

    Cheers boys.

Your best bet would be to search a video on YouTube on how to build a gaming PC. There are a few who do a walk through of the whole process, pretty convenient.

    Ugh.

    Turtle beaches are trash....

For your keyboard, take a look at the ducky shine, or look at steelseries keyboards. Just make sure you get a mechanical and not a rubber dome. Mechanical keyboards are endlessly better.

Probably, but I've only ever used turtle beaches.

I am looking for a mechanical. Ducky shine keyboards are all unavailable on amazon though. But which would you recommend, Corsair Strafe, or Razer Blackwidow (or something else) ?

I wouldn't get a MicroATX motherboard if you're using a full size graphics card. Because things are squished together on those boards, you might end up blocking important components with your bulky GPU. Getting an ATX motherboard would maybe only be $20 more.

For the motherboard; I completely forgot that I made some changes and forgot to update my post, my bad. But looking at my updated one I guess it's still a MicroATX. So is there one you'd recommend Blupig? Also, I'm gonna try and still with that motherboard in the original post only because my friend has a brand new one he bought that he was going to give to me, along with 2x4GB DDR4 RAM. I'm just gonna try and stick with those for a few weeks until I actuall buy my entire setup, then I'll upgrade.

Also I saw that keyboard actually, it seems nice. I might end up buying it.

    Here's my updated list, sorry I forgot to post it earlier;
    http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/DaVolta/saved/NjRD4D

(RAM and Motherboard isn't included there. I was also told by someone on pcpartpicker that the motherboard I'm going to be using for a bit isn't ideal with my CPU, so I really will have to switch anyway. Just that the $100 difference it would make would mean I'd have to wait an extra week or so which I'd rather not do right now.)

Update: After going BACK to the pcpartpicker forums they informed me I needed a better motherboard, and could use a better fan/cooler :) My build started at $838 and is (hopefully) ending at $1311 (after shipping.) :)

I'm also going to have to use a shitty monitor my uncle gave to us and a keyboard (from the 90s) because I'm way too broke to afford anything right now.

Didn't include the RAM in there again, because my friend is giving me some and I'm alright ~$300 over my initial budget.

What do you think of this gaming desktop build?

I went out of my way to make a list that I think suits your needs

You could probably save some money on the PSU I chose in fact.

I didn't choose a a case because you probably have something in mind yourself already.

Edit: I added a Wireless Wifi Adapter, you had it in your setup too, but if you plan on using a cable, you wont need this at all so you can remove it from the list and save yourself 15-20 USD.

I also added a Sound Card incase you want to set up some kind of home theatre environment, its optional, you probably wont need it.

edit2: I'd watch out for recommendations from PCpartpicker, they probably don't have your best interests at heart, your better off going to a hardware forum or having someone check it here. bear in mind, they want to earn money from you, so recommending that you don't need is something they wont be afraid to do.

You are aware liquid coolers have thermal paste pre-applied right? Adding the Arctic silver was unnecessary.

You could have probably saved some cash in a few areas. Personally, I wouldn't have gone with a Skylake processor. The Haswells are still very viable these days and much cheaper. Skylake's main appeal is an improvement on power consumption and putting the whole thing on a smaller die (if I remember correctly it's on like 14-15nm where Haswell is on 18? I don't remember). You wouldn't have noticed much of a performance change if you had gone with a Haswell processor instead.

Also, for the price of the 380 GPU, you could have gotten a 290 or a 290X. Still very viable and very powerful, but cheaper. I have a 280X myself and love it.

Interesting choice on the SSD. Samsung EVOs are cost-effective and easily some of the best SSDs on the market, but to each their own I suppose.

    Good choice on the PSU.
