It goes both ways. One might ask, "What's the point of achieving things when you're gonna lose all of it after you die?"

That depends on your own definition of loss. The world continues, even if your consciousness doesn't, so a philosophical perspective change can render a different view.

Personally I don't see any overall, absolute, universal point to living. In that context, I find it completely pointless. That doesn't mean that I hate my life or don't mean to achieve anything, though, because of what I just mentioned.

I agree with the existential nihilism part.

But what I was trying to say is that, this realization isn't liberating for everyone.

What do you think happens when we die?

You go to heaven, hell or purgatory. Your decisions when you were alive determine where you go.

I would love to believe in the afterlife but unfortunately, I dont think it is true. we stop thinking, we will have no memories of the lives we lived, we will simply just cease to exist.

Perhaps that's true. Regardless, I feel that learning to live with things we find distressing is an important part of achieving happiness in the long run.

Sorry for late reply, but here it is:

How well you followed the 10 commandments, and how often you went to confession. If your unaware what either of those things are I'll explain. The ten commandments is the 10 rules god gave us to follow, some include not lieing/stealing. Confession is where you basically say your sorry to god for what you did. If you broke some of the minor commandments like not going to church or lieing you will probably go to purgatory. If you killed someone or stole, well cya in hell. If you went to confession a ton, were genuinely nice your entire life and always helped ppl your probably going to heaven.

    That's awfully convenient.

There's a lot more than 10 commandments in the Bible though, and many of them contradict each other directly; it is said to be God's word to stone people to death, yet we're not supposed to kill either. I wonder how that works.

What do you think happens when we die?

Okay well so lets use bible to explain some facts here. I have put my complete trust in the bible. One of the most famous lines from the bible.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Where do you go? quite simple and i guess everyone knows that either it is heaven or hell.
Hell has been a controversial topic as many people say if god loves us soo much how can he leave us to suffer for an eternity. But lets just assume it exists for what so reasons.
Alot of people think that our doings (karma) decide where we go heaven or hell but let me make that clear that is not how things work. Life is basically a test to determine wether you are going to hell or heaven.
There are two kinds of people:
    1. Saved
    2. Ones who are not saved
    Saved
are the people who have found jesus during their life. All the saved shall not worry as they have an eternal life.

    Ones who are not saved
Are the people who have declined jesus, not the ones who never got know about him.

You will not go directly to the heaven well you will have to wait for jesus's return but thats a completely different story for some other time.

Till the time of jesus's return what will be our state?
This is what i will call a scientific but temporary definition of death. The person returns to the state where we were born which is NOTHING!

If you want any more information feel free to message me

Thanks for your time for reading this.
    Regards
    Drago

Source's - I did some extensive research when the unknown facts about death started bugging me.

If you have any actual facts to support this stance I'd be fascinated to hear them. If there is no factual evidence, it's not actually fact, it's just baseless conjecture and hypothesis.

Supposedly, Jesus knew he would be going to heaven. A day or few of suffering compared to infinite time in God's kingdom is not much of a sacrifice at all. Now, compare this to the number of merciless slaughters partaken in the name of religion and Jesus' supposed sacrifice and suffering does not even hold a candle to it.

How do you know that life is a test to go in to heaven or hell? The Bible may be your sacred text, but it was also penned by man and is based on oral recounts of events initially written hundreds of years after the events actually happened.

You did not cite sources or facts, and you did not pose anything other than conjecture. I'm afraid you aren't very convincing, but if you do manage to come across any empirical, undeniable and unfalsifiable fact, then I would be very, very interested in it.

I will not oppose to what you just said Coz ur right, its all upto you if u want to believe it or not but i choose to believe.

Because if what i said is true i live with the god, not suffer. If not i will face the same consequences as everyone. Another proof i would supposedly offer would be the book "heaven is for real" it is based on a real life story. Where a kid entered heaven its you choice to believe it or not. (ofcourse you will think that a 4 year old can make all this up) and you might even think that someone else told that? I can assure you it was the kid.

Please show me where in the bible your supposed to kill someone? I think you may be taking the bible to literally. I mean, should all the soldiers in war go to hell?

In a hurry, so I'll be quick:

I actually don't understand how you can choose to believe. You either accept the evidence (or lack thereof) at hand and make logical conclusions based on that, or you choose to ignore everything and remain unreasonable and ignorant.

"The Bible isn't good enough as the divine word of God, so go read something else, which was also penned by man."
This is neither proof nor a reliable source as it is a purely conjectural piece based on, supposedly, experience. It was not recorded in a scientifically verifiable or repeatable way, and thus there is no evidence presented. Hitchen's Razor applies: that which is presented without evidence may be dismissed without evidence.

Further, our memories are often formed from fragmented and distorted perceptions that are subject to the same narrative our minds are subject to. This kid's personal experience means nothing to me.

    http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/says_about/stoning.html

How can you justify taking the Bible literally at points (e.g. 10 commandments) and then say it's fictional at other points? That's cherry picking information with no good reason for doing so, besides maybe not agreeing with it. But if you don't agree with it, why say you do?

As for the soldiers, according to the Bible they probably should. Not for me to say, though.
