Welcome to Sythe Private Message

We are writing a PM to send to all new members of the site. It needs to be short so that they actually read it. It needs to make them feel welcome and make them want to stay. It needs to give them the most essential information in an easy to digest way. It needs to link to additional resources that they can use to learn how to use Sythe.

This is what we have so far. Please suggest changes (I am the final decider of what gets changed. That is, until Sythe looks at it):

 

I wouldn't explicitly mention runescape cheating, as we need to try to appeal to non-runescape players. Make more of a reference to our off-topic, SFA and SF areas where it's just laid back chatting.

 

Somehow I think this should be stressed more,
"It is strongly advised you read our Newcomer Introduction and Tutorial to learn more about Sythe and how it works", for example. I just think a little more encouragemet would make people more likely to click.

 

Should the ordering be changed around for the links?

 

Should be "originally hosted its own bots".

Should say "There is also a programming section and a graphics section", or "There are programming and graphics sections as well".

 

I like the first lines of the tutorial thread:
(To go above all the links?)

The following resources may be extremely useful to keep yourself and your money or goods safe.
We recommend all members unfamiliar with a trading forum environment to read it carefully.​

The order's fine IMO.

 

I like how it looks and would definitely read it. Good job.

 

I think the last sentence handles that topic nicely. And I don't think it will really help telling them they should. And the threads are very obvious.

 

I know if i was a newcomer i wouldnt bother reading that. it's still too long

Welcome to our community! Here you can conduct trades for real/virtual goods with other members. There are a wide variety of off-topic sections where you can discuss or even request help regarding absolutely anything.

Sythe.org is a black-market, aka. "The craigslist of virtual goods". Most people come to Sythe.org for the markets, but also to talk about RuneScape cheating as Sythe originally hosted it's own bots. There are many other sections too - have a look around!

Before you start trading or using the forums, there are a few threads you should read. By doing so, you will not only reduce your chances of being scammed or ripped off, but you may learn a few tips and tricks that will make your Sythe experience that bit easier.

 

This exactly. But that's probably just a few of us that feels this way. When I joined this forum, I wasn't interested in the community, only the market, so I doubt I ever read that message. When joining other forums, you get a welcome-message alike, and I just won't bother reading it no matter how short it is, as they are usually just saying the same

But I guess it looks fine, SuF. At least it looks very organized and well-expressed, so I guess some people that are not as lazy as me would read it. But most people are just going to skip it, or at least that's what I think.

 

I care more about the links than the text. You think people would actually notice them?

IMO this is plenty short. It's like 9 sentences max. Contentwise, I like it

 

Yeah, people would notice the links -- if they bother opening the PM in the first place. But yeah, the arrows and bold, yellow text is working for sure

 

It's only 159 words. I also didn't write it.

 

Forget the essay at the start (1 para is fine) then maybe.

 

Maybe just remove the middle paragraph?

Centre the first 2 paragraphs and i'd say thats perfect.
