Look at the address bar, it'll say http://www.sythe.org/crazycodehere.
But what's this? An icon?!
I recently got a website and I was wondering how to make my own icon go up there. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

To insert you website logo, you must create a 16px x 16px icon and save it in microsoft icon form. Example: "logo.ico".

Then in your HTML in the

<head></head>

tags insert the following line of code...

<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="/~your_directory/logo.ico">

Simple, yes?

^ The above method does work. However, most browsers nowadays that support website icons are configured to search on pageload for an image stored in the first directory of your website.

All you have to do is create an icon in .ico format, 16X16, and then rename it to favicon.ico (.ico being the filetype) then upload it via FTP to your root directory. Refresh your page (can take up to 10 minutes for it to register) and then if your using Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or IE 7+, it will display your icon. This is the method most companies use. For example.
