Requiring Vouches: You may not promise/require a vouch in the market. Vouches are given when the user you're dealing with feels you deserve a vouch, and no one is obligated to vouch under any circumstances.

I keep reading this rule and each time I feel I don't quite understand it but anyway... Why is this rule in place? Why can you not require a vouch?

I very recently started selling in the software market place. I initially offered 5 vouch copies only to users with 10+ posts in the HOPE (because I can't require due to the rule) that users would come back and vouch that their keys worked. In the end I gave out 17 vouch copies, for free. Only 3 of which actually bothered to come back and re-post to say that their keys worked.

So I go back to the beginning question. Vouches are important if you want to gain trust and provide a great service. Why can we not require a vouch, if a vouch copy is given out? At the moment there is nothing stopping these guys posting on every sales thread for vouch copies and essentially stealing them (which I am seeing already)?

The user should be required to respond once the vouch copy has been given whether the feedback is postive or negative.

I've probably overlooked something here so I look forward to your replies :)

What if the user was not pleased with their service or the manner in which the trade was conducted.

He or she should be able to decide whether the other user is given a vouch.

No support. Wont happen either.

The funny part is everyone links their vouch thread at the end of a trade asking them to leave one.

The rule is stupid.

Indeed. This rule confuses me...

What if the user was not pleased with their service or the manner in which the trade was conducted.

He or she should be able to decide whether the other user is given a vouch.

From my point of view a "vouch" is just a word for feedback. If the user was not happy with the service for whatever reason, or in my case the key did not work, they should be required to state that.

The fact that 14 people asked for vouch copies, received them and simply disappeared, not even a PM is frankly highly disappointing.

The definition of a vouch:

assert or confirm as a result of one's own experience that something is true or accurately so described.

I don't see the problem of requiring a vouch at the end of the trade to confirm the service. If the user got what was explained in the service, why shouldn't that person vouch for the validity of it?

It shouldn't be forced unless its required in the terms and conditions of the service. That's where the rule interferes with that.

You can say "please vouch" or "can you vouch here"

Just cant put in your ToS "you will leave a vouch"

From what I gather from the rule is it's trying to keep vouches from becoming some sort of currency.

What if you got your 15 strength levels as requested but it took 2 weeks longer than you asked for. Would you still want to vouch for said user?

Vouches should not be required.

Is there a reason for this? I'm sure I have probably overlooked something but from my experience so far on Sythe it's been disappointing as explained above :(

People shouldn't be required to leave you a vouch because of your terms of service, the whole point of a vouch is that they feel compelled to give you a thank-you and want to support your future business. It's their decision, not yours on whether they think they got a good trade. It isn't genuine when you have in your TOS something like "IF YOU TRADE WITH ME YOU MUST VOUCH"

Yeah its called free will.

This first part I can understand completely. Thanks :)

For the next point however if you get your levels but took 2 weeks longer than promised then the user simply states "I received the 15 strength levels but it took 2 weeks longer than promised.

I can't see why something so simple cannot be required. Whether the vouch/confirmation/feedback is positive or negative is irrelevant.

Just trying to understand is all (not argue)! :)

because nobody is required to leave a vouch if they dont want to - whether their experience is positive or negative. why should they be?

a vouch copy/review isn't the same as an ordinary service that the rule is there for. if someone asks for a vouch copy they should then really, yes they should write the review. that's different, and i didnt realise you meant specifically vouch copies.

however, one tiny part of a market doesn't warrant the removal of a rule that is there for the entire market. what do you propose we do? ban people for not writing the review? I would just suggest not giving vouch copies out so freely and only do so to respectable members or staff members so you know you aren't being taken advantage of.

Let's start off.

Firstly, a "vouch copy" is given to people who sell E-books. The members to receive a vouch copy are usually respectable members and are there to judge the book.

Secondly,

You where giving out free keys and expecting people to vouch for you? This is like saying;

I'll open a gold shop, and the first 50 people get free 1M BUT MUST VOUCH.
No, you're literally buying vouches so no it shouldn't be allowed.

FINALLY
You're using a key gen/obtaining the keys illegally and trying to sell them for a profit.

You're selling keys that are worth 49.99$ each for 1 pound each, meaning it's obvious you're obtaining them illegally.

And to staff, I suggest updating the rules and make selling cracked keys of any sort against the rules, as they're being obtained for FREE, ILLEGALLY and being sold for PROFIT.

I can only speak for my personal experiences but 96.4% (yes I did the math) of my trades went successfully and EVERY time I asked nicely if the person thought I deserved a vouch, they went ahead and vouched. It's a rare occurrence when somebody refuses to leave a vouch after a smooth trade. Your situation is different because you just gave out free copies. There's no trust involved in that. You could of sent ONE copy to a trusted user to verify they work. No need for 17 free copies.

You talk about quality of users but quality of vouches should be take into consideration.

Obtaining something for free and distributing it for profit / vouches is not what builds a trustworthy trader. I would rather trade with someone with 10 vouches with quality vouches rather than someone who has 100 vouches selling whatever you are selling.

Because it's stupid to say "I won't trade with you if you won't leave a vouch". What are you trading for: trying to make a legitimate business and turn a profit or vouches that really mean nothing and just determine who's going first in the trade? You were to loose in handing out your vouch copies, might even go as far to say as dumb. 17 vouch copies? That's just illogical from any perspective. Make better decisions in the future and you'll get vouches. Most smart traders know that vouches don't really determine a person's trustworthiness and they only help when you're trading with newcomers who don't understand the system.
