Hi, can someone point me in the direction of some visual c++ tools for linux

MICROSOFT visual c++ for LINUX?
I lol'd. Just look for C++ compilers/IDEs for Linux. You won't find any Microsoft/Visual products for it.

Wait, do you not have an Archer rank?
Linux CAN be used for .NET development, just not using the standard Microsoft IDEs.

eMacs is a great tool for linux users, it is a multiple language interpreter/compiler and has all the basic editing stuff that you might need.

here is a link:http://www.gnu.org/software/software.html

and another for everything you might need to read because sometimes the install is tricky: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/gnugo_2.html

The best way to get the correct version of eMacs might be just to use ubuntu's package manager.

If you want to code with something similar to .Net, try MonoDevelop.

I use the following IDE: http://codeblocks.org/

If you want a GUI builder, use wxWidgets.

thanks for all the answers i will probally be going with the one swam recommended to now i just have to learn how to program

Just curious: could they work under Wine?
I doubt it. From my experiences with WINE, it has had trouble running simple third-party software, let alone an entire Windows IDE. Even then, the executable created would be a Windows binary.

NetBeans 6.1 is quite a nice IDE, mind you if your using ubuntu then gedit + bash is all you really need, gedit = syntax highlighting bash + g++ = compiling

I find Eclipse with CDT Plugin work at times for some IDE work. As far as my experiences with Linux(2 years now) I haven't seen such software. Since many windows headers won't be supported whilst being on a Linux environment.

@crapkiller, and Nullware: Microsoft have been major contributors to the Linux Kernel. Yet its still a worthy point being mentioned about competition :/

you should try dev C++
You don't have much of a clue what Linux is, do you? Linux CAN NOT run Windows software without some sort of compatibility layer like WINE, and they are often very buggy. Dev-C++ will not work on Linux.

Personally i like code::blocks, a very nice IDE, on both linux and windows.
