    Vista Downgrade > How?

Basically, let me start off saying I don't mind losing my programs etc, I just want the Drivers to be intact.

Alright, I have a Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 Reinstallation Disk from my PC, and I want to downgrade to Vista. I don't think I got any disks when I bought my laptop.

How do I downgrade to it? I've heard that if I just stick the CD it, it'll erase my Drivers. How do I do it? Thanks.

You can't. It's like purposely swapping your gun for a stick. Microsoft doesn't want you to do it. :|

A lot of drivers are only going to work for one of the two, XP or Vista. Surely you can find out what drivers you have installed, download the XP versions of the drivers, and reinstall after downgrading?

It's true that you won't have drivers when you stick in the OS cd in, and complete the wipe of your computer.

I wouldn't recommend you doing this unless you have the cd's that contain the drivers. You might know about the basic drivers that are needed, but don't forget that you need a Network driver to connect to the internet, even if you are connected to your internet provider - it's in those cd's that came with your computer.

I'd suggest if you really want to downgrade, re-buy the driver cd's.

Yeah, quit listening to the crowd.

I believe you can send your laptop into Microsoft and they'll downgrade it for you. Although, they may have stopped doing that.

You need to do a HD wipe, then re-install from a Windows disk.

I had the same driver problem when I downgraded my comp - I called Tech Support, and they sent me a package of the drivers I needed to reinstall. I saved the drivers, and they've come in useful after the comp gets shut off wierd and the drivers get f*ked up.

    Hasta la Vista.

You can delete the partition from the Windows CD and install XP - but be sure to download XP-compatible drivers from the device manufacturers beforehand, and store them on an iPod or a jump drive or something temporary beforehand.
