When you download a virused file, do you instantly become infected or do you have to actually open it ( i recently download a virused .rar file, but i deleted from comp before opening it )

instantly i believe. but most of the times ppl dont kno u infected for a few days or hrs before things start happening weird

To speculate on this is ridiculous, since viruses aren't uniform, at all.

If the infected file is INSIDE the .RAR archive you're fine because it can't be released without external help. If the .RAR archive itself was infected you might be infected as some viruses can spread by themselves.
