Views from the 6

It dropped last night, but apparently it's just on iTunes right now. Any idea when it's gonna hit Spotify? Any opinions on the album? Favorite songs?

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole album. I think I listened to all of it like 4 times. The album has a very chill vibe with nice production.

Tired of artist selecting specific streaming platforms when releasing their albums. I know they're getting large cuts but it makes it a hassle for me when I primarily use Spotify to listen to music. I'm just going to end up torrenting the album now.

 

Same here, but he signed a 20m deal with apple so he's pretty much being forced to do this. >_<

 

I primarily use Spotify too but I have Apple Music just in-case something like this happens. Although I picked up the album for $14. I've only listened to it once but I like One Dance, Pop Style, Child's Play, and Too Good is dank as fuck.

 

Haven't listened to it too in depth to give much insight at the moment although I think it is interesting that the Jay & Kanye feature on Pop Style was dropped for the album version although I'll likely just replace it with the version including them.

GRAMMY

 

Given all the hype generated for the album it was a let down for me. It was just another take care when he was in perfect position to drop a defining album of his career. One statement I've seen that fits is we wanted a MBDTF from him but got a Late Registration. The album is too long and due to the lack of sounds covered it feels bloated making it hard to digest. There bangers on the album are lacking too, Pop Style could have been a lot better with the Jay & Kanye feature as they broke up a bit of the monotony that was present in the tracks towards the end. Don't even get me started on some of the corny lines too like Chains they call me Chaining Tatum. He needs to fire that ghostwriter in particular.

It's still a good album but it's not deserving of the numbers it will do. It's still early in the year but this is already out of contention for album of the year for me with Pablo being better despite the botched album roll-out and patching.

 

It was a letdown to those who were anticipating more rap from him. I think IYRTITL/WATTBA heightened this anticipation. I'm a fan of his singing so this album was not a let down to me. I've listened to this album in full about 12 times already. The sounds and samples are very soothing and the tracks he does rap on have WATTBA/NWTS/Take Care vibes. After some time, I think most people will come to like this album more than they do now. I remember when Take Care was released and many people disliked/clowned it for being too much singing, similar critics to this one.

I'm fine with his singing, I actually liked Take Care it just all seems too similar, safe, and the same old, same old.

Especially with the original title of Views from the 6 and how he has been repping Toronto so much lately, it seemed like we were going to get an insight into how his city had shaped him but we got recycled flows.

 

Flow =/= Story

On his more earnest songs on the album and even on Western Road Flows, he does paint a vivid description of his life. You should never expect titles to reflect what's on an album because most are irrelevant nowadays.

 

Eh there were parts but it was still packed out with the typical "i'm better than the rest" and stories about old hoes which is fine, he can do what he wants I was just expecting something different.

The album has grown on me with further listens but I still maintain my opinions, it has fallen out of album of the year for me.

 

Fair enough. I don't think it will be the best album of the year either. Wouldn't be surprised if it won a grammy though.

I don't know, I don't like the idea of things having to be so black & white in a certain category especially nowadays with people blurring the lines even further. Gun to my head though, I guess you'd say a hip-hop / RnB fusion of sorts.

 

I heard from friends it's very chill, have not heard it myself yet either

Yeah you can always just torrent the album then manually add it to spotify
