    Utopia, is it achievable?

The title is pretty much self-explanatory. Is a utopia able to exist. Or is the closest we will be to this, dystopia.

    Contemplate.

    Discuss.

    Debate.

It seems like eventually we will reach dystopia. I highly doubt we'll get anywhere close to Utopia.

We would never reach Utopia. There's so many people with so many differences.

The answer is no. Chances of two people having the same ideals of a perfect society are slim, more-or-less, an entire group/population of a society.

Utopia is the perfect society for one.
We wouldn't have one since there are so many people in this world with so many different views on many different things.

Dystopia on the other hand is the opposite of Utopia, where as in the world would be reckless of different opinions, and there would also be a lot of violence.

I believe we're closer to that than we are closer to Utopia, by far more.

As many have said Utopia is impossible.

If you think it is possible, why do we have wars?
Because people disagree and hate each other.

Without war and disagreement, we will have a Utopia. That will never happen because there is always one guy that likes to be the mess up.

We've already achieved dystopia - in some ways - why go for the opposite when it has taken so many years? Although I do like the idea of utopia it's just a ludacris thought.

    Utopia, is it achievable?

ty for that i learned something today :)

have to agree with you. i doubt we will ever be able to achieve utopia simply because people will be jerks just because they can. Politics would not exist if there was no rivalry. Millions of people would not be killed if there was no rivalry. Trillion of dollars of money would be lost if there was no rivalry. Not to mention all the jobs that will be lost.

most of what i said revolves around business corporations and army. Now think about how many people that you know are in either of these 2 fields. I'm sure A LOT

    Utopia, is it achievable?

Utopia is all in your personal definition. I think some places might have already reached Utopia. Communes. Communes catch a bad rap for being cultist/hippy living spaces. A few that have sparked an interest in my mind include:

    http://www.twinoaks.org/

    http://www.acorncommunity.org/

Secular egalitarian communities, in my opinion, are Utopias. When successful, the residents would have a quality of life that suits them.

EDIT: I am not saying these are Utopias, but merely steps in the right ( or left I guess) direction.

EDIT2: I've read over these posts and people are arguing the point that people are too diverse, and on a worldwide scale, they may be correct. Although I think this quote from Twin Oaks speaks for it's self.

"We do not have a group religion; our beliefs are diverse. We do not have a central leader; we govern ourselves by a form of democracy with responsibility shared among various managers, planners, and committees. We are self-supporting economically, and partly self-sufficient. We are income-sharing."

    Utopia, is it achievable?

Utopia only exists in the land of dolls, puppies, and teletubbies.
Dystopia, maybe but I highly doubt that Utopia is possible

(Utopia, as what people generally define it)

To have Utopia you would need Perfect People, people aren't perfect.

    Utopia, is it achievable?

The fact of the matter is that we'll never be able to reach the point of Utopia because it contradicts itself. Everyone has their own opinion on an ideal society. We're definitely capable of reaching a Dystopia though, and I'm pretty sure we'll reach that point very soon.

We will never reach utopia. Man is arrogant and unable to accept everyone due to experiences or traumas. Dystopia is neigh.
