Majority couldn't care less about Freddie Gray, they're simply just looking for an excuse to riot. Sad really. Pretty much all the sneaker shops have been completely cleaned out too.

It's not racism, it's statistics. If it were Asians i'd say the same thing, if it were Hispanics i'd say the same thing, if it were white people i'd say the same thing, why is it that African-Americans are the minority yet commit nearly half the crimes when they constitute 12% of the population? Why is it that many immigrant minorities are doing just fine, yet African American groups in certain geographic regions are acting as if the world is out to get them?

The arguments I hear time and time again are "better jobs!" "better education!" yeah, people tried arguing that about ISIS. Come to find out, Jihadi John is actually college educated and was doing just fine. How fucking ironic. There are plenty of schools for troubled kids, you can find plenty of videos on YT of these schools and how the kids act. This is a culture issue, and plain and simple.

Nothing will change until they themselves stop acting like they're the victims.

 

Now I do not support riots in any fashion, but you need to look at it from more than just your perspective. It is incredibly easy to sit in an ivory tower, scoff at problems, and proceed to flip out when individuals start rioting. Is it right? No. Are they doing incredibly stupid (among other) things? Yes. Are there reasons for it? Yes.

Now, are all those people out there (both rioting and peaceful protesting) out there for Gray? Probably not, but such an event may of been the one to push things over the edge.

I agree with Jack, most of the people don't care about Gray, it just ended up as a huge looting fest.

 

Honestly if i was a shop owner or owned one of those vehicles i would of opened fire and mowed them down. Police brutality is a problem all across america but that doesnt mean you destroy honest innocent peoples shit.

 

But they are the victims? We all have the same amount of potential, but not the same amount of opportunity to use that potential. This starts with the education system in poor areas. We can't judge what we haven't experienced. The injustice curve is against them, the police investigation reports in Ferguson speaks for itself, and the harassment these people face on a daily basis are clear indicators that they are being purposely targeted. I saw comments about people saying this reminds them of the scene from planet of the apes. It's funny because it perfectly describes why the riots started. Why did the apes riot? Because they were being oppressed in the environments they were living in. Their retaliation was the effect of that, as are the riots. I'm sure most people who are participating in the riots are not there for the death of Freddie Gray, but for their own personal gain. The media knows the majority of these rioters aren't protesters, but they are portraying otherwise for obvious reasons. Tmoe said it best.

The media seems to be blowing this up, but really I understand protest but the ones out there doing the violence just are there for that only not for the original cause. Horrible

tl;dr:

It isn't an issue of racism, rather of police being unaccountable and getting paid vacations when they murder someone.

Anger and violence is a fine reaction, there will be no justice of the state trying itself and finding itself innocent. There will be no justice through non-violent protests. But know who your enemy is rioters, it certainly isn't the stores you're looting or the city that you're burning to the ground. Its the state, and more specifically that officer. Go after him. Break HIS spine, throw rocks at HIM, burn HIS house down. Random violence against peaceful people makes you every bit as bad as him.

If I kidnapped a man and he ended up dead because I neglected to take him to the hospital I'd be in jail for the rest of my life. This guy will get some time off for a paid vacation because he has a badge.

People are rioting in the streets, burning down buildings, assaulting people. I'm merely suggesting that the person who did this is a public figure. If you're going to throw rocks go throw them at him. If you're going to assault someone go assault him.

didnt think there'd be this much goodness in this thread. great post, same with you tmoe. again, easy to judge when most of us have grown up in upper middle class families and never had to worry bout none of this shit. growing up in a low income area that breeds a culture of drug use and thugs is a tough life with not a lot of way out. having the police force treat you completely different b/c of your skin color and the fact it's so strongly associated with the previously mentioned hood culture is some tough shit too.

Interesting reading Tmoe & Ghast. Over in New Zealand I'm unaware of all the living conditions but it truly does sound like a depressing place to live.

A lot of the rioters are clearly just taking advantage of the situation. Be that as it may, that doesn't change the fact that there is a clear issue where police officers are not being held accountable for there actions. Recently a video surfaced of a police officer shooting a suspect in the back, he was charged with murder. If that video was not posted online i guarantee that officer would be on desk duty instead of facing criminal charges.

I respect officers, they have a very difficult job especially in the inner cities with high crime rates but they need to be re-trained. Officers are taught to shoot for center mass but in other countries they are taught to disarm. I also believe they need to undergo psych evals more often
