Using Irrelevant Threads to Boost Post Count

EDIT 1/23/2015: Using Dave's thread as an example was incorrect, since it turns out it was from a BSGP thread in 2011. The point still stands although from what I see on Sythe it may not actually be relevant. I can't find examples of people abusing this function.

    Example: http://www.sythe.org/private-server...kov-gold-buy-shop-great-prices-fast-easy.html

Dave is using a thread which has absolutely 0 relevance to RSPS gold sales, in order to give the appearance that he has a longstanding RSPS gold thread. This type of activity is anti-competitive and it's not only Dave doing it. I don't mind if someone changes an active thread within the relevant forum, but in this example he has gravedug his 2011 RS3 Gold Shop, moved it to the RSPS forum, and labeled it as an Ikov Gold Shop.

How is it fair that new members create threads starting from 0 post count, while older members can recycle old irrelevant threads to get a massive head start in terms of post count / views?

I suppose it's a bit better when it's a BSGP shop. Misread it. I'm fine with a rule that threads are not moved between forums in order to boost post count. For example, a pin thread should not be moved to RS3 Buying. I think we can all agree that threads which bare no relevance to their current use should not be used to boost post count. RSPS -> RSPS is fine.

Personally don't think at matters, when I see he went BSGP --> IKOV its no big deal.

The cases of this happening have to be in the single digits if it even happens at all. Since you'd have to both be a mod & do it & get away with it.

Are there any other examples of this?

Irrelevant thread, it's all from BattleScape sales from a Private Server market. Nothing I said is a lie, read the contents of the thread lmao, I clearly even say in my thread "I have been part of the private server market since early 2011 in servers such as battlescape, grinderscape, and soulsplit"

IT's not giving off the impression of anything, I clearly state that I started in a different private server, not trying to lie to anyone lol

I don't think Will is trying to fault you for that specific thread. After he realized that it was all RSPS related he changed his wording to say someone shouldn't be allowed to go from membership sales --> rs3. (Example, editing the layout and thread title to make it look older/more views). Which as far as I know is a non-issue/goes without saying.

I might not be remembering correctly but there is some kind of special guidelines you receive when you get promoted and if that's the case a sentence could be thrown in there I suppose.

Pretty sure there was a thread started by R2p about this when Rs07 first came out

I don't see a problem, at all. It was a RSPSGP buy/sell thread. Now it's an RSPSGP buy/sell thread. There's no problem with using the same thread. I see your concerns, but they're completely unfounded.

I'm guessing... he didn't want to waste precious Sythe space, that's very efficient of him.

Once again, I had originally thought Dave's thread was an RS3 thread. I'm cool with him using an RSPS thread, even if it's from 2011.

+1 I think this is fair, I think you assumed he moved his topic from a different section to get a massive boost on the view count etc. As long as it's in that specific section Then you should be allowed to do this :p

I'm like 95% sure that there was a discussion on this im the past and it's already been said that you aren't allowed to move topics through sections to boost post count and views, I just can't remember who made the thread

Nevertheless im fairly certain that moving through sections like that isn't allowed

There have been examples of people doing that, I believe a user by the name of "Lured Yah" or similar did this with firecapes + RSGP a year or two ago. I don't recall if any action was taken against him for doing that. Regardless this probably doesn't need to be a written rule but rather a conclusion made among moderators not to move threads from one section to another if it's an obvious attempt to give an unfair advantage in a market a user hasn't made a presence in previously.

This isn't allowed, it was discussed just as the addition of the swapping section was added.
