Upgrades sellers should be required to tell which type of upgrade they are providing
PayPal, Credit Card, SMS, Game Card, etc in their selling thread/title.

This way people can know which upgrade they are getting right away before purchasing, and they can quantify the risks of what they are getting.

Meaning PayPal, Credit Card, and SMS upgrades can VERY EASILY be charged back at any time, while some of the other options are much safer and can not be charged back.

It's also the customers right to know what they are getting, and the sellers right to have full transparency of what they are selling.

Yeah sure each buyer can just ask the seller in a post, over PM, etc, but why not just require the buyer to straight up say what type they are selling in the tread title/thread body?

Seems like a solid idea, if a sticky were to be made it should point out how easily PayPal, Credit Card and SMS upgrades can be charged back and that users should be wary of this and only purchase these types of upgrades from trusted individuals.

People could easily lie about the type of upgrade they sell.

They say they use game cards but they actually use SMS and chargeback.

This could be avoided by using a MM for newer members who would bother to scam an upgrade, and when the upgrade payment option differs from what is stated when the MM is applying it, it would raise alarm flags.

Yeah that is very true :/.
This will only happen in the case that the seller wishes to apply the upgrade himself. If the seller let's buyer apply then buyer will know.

But yeah now that I think of it they can lie, and apply it however they wish if seller is applying.
Or if buyer is applying seller can list one method, and then just say 'OOPS' and give the buyer a different method :/. In which case the buyer can ask for this money back :).

But yeah it would be nice to have 100% transparency about what kinds of upgrades are being sold and all, but people can always lie about it :/.

Would still be nice to make this a requirement though, buyer could always ask TV the seller while he applies.
The only chargebackable methods are also ones that are 'private' (meaning Credit card #/Telephone #) so if the buyer refuses to TV you know he is most likely using Credit Card/SMS/Chargebackable method.

Kinda just rambling now :] I guess in the end no way to 100% ensure the seller is being transparent or not.

    I got it!

Maybe not make this an enforced rule, but at least have an 'Upgrade Buying Safety' thread.

So if the buyer can't apply own upgrade, and the seller won't let buyer TV/View the upgrade be applied, have the buyer request a picture of the transaction confirmed page from Jagex that you get after upgrading an account.

This page shows date, time, transaction ID, and the upgrade method used, along with other important information!
All of this information should be available and given to a buyer anyways for their personal records since it is their account being upgraded.

That's pretty much as much as we can do, just warn and acknowledge people about safety concerns.

Yohojo there are alrdy 5001 stickies on chargebacks etc. The true deal would be if they have to screenshot the paid page afterwards i believe it says what it was paid with.... So incomm game card is RS Card... And so on and so forth. If they lie...They get a 3 day ban if they chargeback full ban.

I support this, the buyer should have the right to know the method they are getting their upgrade.

Also I have a question, if you buy a membership with Paypal and chargeback, will your Runescape account get banned?

It'll be 'temporarily suspended', sending your account into negative 'J Coins'. J Coins are currency used by JaGeX to, in sense, hold your account hostage until you repay that charged back membership. What sucks about J Coins is that instead of paying that $7.95 or however much the upgrade was, JaGeX adds a 'fee' to the charge, and it costs nearly $20 to unlock your account.

OT: I would support adding a clause about SMS/PayPal upgrades to this sticky, http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1245220, since the sticky really only covers CC/Bank Charge Backs.

And with your idea of making the user's specify what type of upgrade it is, I feel that would simply not work very well. All you need to do is lie about it, and you would never know the seller lied about it until you trade with him, which is probably too late by then.

I support, with an extension. I think it should be demanded that you must show proof of how the upgrade was redeemed. Of course, his doesn't hurt anything, and should only be needed when requested from the user.

I think it's a general rule to pic trades anyways for proof.

Perfect Idea I believe upon request or maybe a new rule.... That each upgrade done for someone whether you apply it or not you should keep record. Because it clearly states the type of way it was paid EG: PaybyCash, Paybyphone, Paybysms Incomm Game Card, and it goes on. The reason Jagex charges a fee is because they get charged a fee. This was one reason RWT was removed ages ago due to stolen credit cards being used to buy memberships. Thus resulting in thousands of chargebacks which made them lose money.

There are very few people who sell gamecards. Yohojo, H1J1Q23, Lopeta, And Myself are just ones off the bat. Guys please Understand it is quite easy to get scammed with anything but gamecards. I for one would only buy a sms/credit card from someone of high status. Such as Video, Grave, Pockets or Mods. As they all wouldnt lose out for $7 worth of gp.

    Just my two sense.

    Tl;DR

New rule is all upgraders must take pics of all upgrades done to accounts. Random inspection by a market mod to ensure safety as well!
