Moparscape does not sell runescape accounts and gold.

Never heard of the others.

 

Grave, Sythe uses more bandwidth than pretty much any other runescape site, and often goes over the bandwidth limits, hence the high prices.

Other hosts would merely cancel the hosting account or remove the site without notice.

 

Actually statistics show that RuneHQ uses more.

Who gives a fuck, the fact is were not getting one.

 

Pretty much everyone that uses this site cares. You know how annoying it is when I network time out, or have to click the link five times to get to the webpage.

This only shows that our Administrator is incapable of choosing a decent host, and running there firewalls and DDoS protection properly. There is no excuse for paying $700 a month on hosting.

 

Like i said before, if you would like to pay for a new host, go ahead. Until then, you cannot bitch about what you can fix, and choose not to.

Please. Half the people who still use this site are newbies, and those who are left are people who are used to the downtime. So the only people complaining are those who registered within the past 3 months.

This is already a powerful webforum. If you hadn't noticed, around www.sythe.org receives approximately 80,000 to 100,000 a day. On top of that, we are constantly being DDoS'ed by hackers/Sigex/etc. If you would like to help fix this problem, go and donate some money. Otherwise, think before you talk.

 

You really all don't know what your talking about. I say that in the nicest of ways. Let's say, at any given time, you login, and you want to sell a character. Assuming you see there are 30 people online at any given time, and 1/3 people are posting, you can say that at almost any time of the day, there are 10 new posts being made. Now, again, 10 posts every 5 minutes, at 60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day. This results in 2880 posts in a day. There are about 10 posts per thread, on average. This means we generate 288 threads per day. Google sees that there are new links on this site, so their search engine registers this in their servers, by sending out what we commonly call 'Google Bots.' These are typically just scripts that register all the given information, and search out 'keywords' in the threads. it is typical to see 50 or so Google Bots on, in the form of guests, at any given time as well. Now we've got the load of at least 80 users, downloading any given amount of data/transferred data (Outsourced picture links.) If that were downloading only 10 Kbs per user, per second, that's 800kb/s of data that would have to be uploaded at any given time. Simple enough for a server during the off-hours. Now imagine that it's a busy hour, with over 50 users. You can expect your Google Bots have doubled. If you think Google is the only search engine out there looking, you'd be wrong about that, too. Forums are much unlike content boards, like RuneHQ in this way - They are constantly updated. RuneHQ has content updates about once daily. This results in very little work-load from search engines.

Now, I'm not saying that this site is not DDoS attacked, but most of the time, it is by an individual, which can easily be fixed. There was a time when the managers of our server tried to fix the load by stopping anyone requesting multiple times for one session to be blocked. This ended up being a hassle, and pissing Sythe off, because it pissed us all off. Honestly, the hardest thing about getting a server like this one, is that there is nothing that can be done about it. Essentially, there is always someone from the Runescape community breathing down the necks of black market, and cheating style forums. There were many times that we have been threatened to get shut down, and if I remember right, that is why we cost so much money. Not that it's hard to get us shut down, but that it's hard to find someone who would reliably keep us private. If you tried tracking the IP, by any standard, conventional means, you usually hit a brick wall. Not to mention that now no one has a say in what is on this server except the guy who owns it.

 

Well taking that into consideration, couldn't a server with a fast internet be purchased since it would be fully under Sythe's control? Someone said it costs $700 a month, and with that Sythe can Lease like, almost one hundred 1TB servers, or a few ultra-loaded computers.

 

Sythe has already said he isn't going to take money out of his pocket.

So donate, so you can stop getting annoyed by the server being offline.

 

This is a huge suggestion considering the fact of the server processor we need for this website it would cost like around 600-800 bucks, thats a lot and i dont think we could round up enough people to pay that much a month

 

Sythe actually already payed $650 for our old hosting (It changed today)
