Updates on RS Market Performance

I see a lot of posts here or there about the "decline" or the RS Markets.

This may be happening to individual sellers here or there, but as PA currently has the largest aggregated markets of RS to date, I can say that there is no decline happening.

In fact, getting into RS markets now, is probably smartest as there has been a healthy increase.

Here are some interesting metrics regarding the RS Markets:

From 2013 --> 2014

• RS3 experienced a slight decline of 9.79%
• RS2007 experienced an increase of 50.63%

This brings the total growth market at 22.41% for positive change.

Food for Thought (Feb --> March):
February has seen a huge jump in RS Market performance, with Rs2007, growing by nearly 94%.

Knowing this, what are your ideas on RS markets y/y growth... and even more striking, what do you believe is contributing to the insane RS growth on PA Feb - March?

I believe that with the influx of more players due to F2P being permed, there will definitely be an increase of activity in the RS market.

Note: I've seen more people in Barbarian Assault.

 

F2p and the addition of the grand exchange

 

I thought the grand exchange was available in-game as far back as 2011?

How will Jagex monetize RS if they are removing the premium subscription?

 

Here's the sad part:

An Outdated version of the game is taking the "new" updated game version to school in terms of players now.


The interesting thing is when will Jagex stop? Do they update 07 all the way back up to 2010?

IF you want the truth in my opinon, Jagex will come to 2 conclusions, either update 07 to the point of 09-11, OR release a 2010-2011 server(peak time for pking If i remb right, ddclaws etc).


The ironic thing is jagex is now starting to do what RSPS have done for years, go back in time to let their old players relive their old games.


When RS starts going down the road of RSPS, theres cause for concern.


Many people would likely argue with me over how close RS/RSPS are, but let me tell you, I likely have more time and exp in RSPS then any other user left on sythe in terms of length I've been around, and I can tell you its starting to change where rsps are no longer modeling older versions of rs/new versions of rs, RS is starting to model rsps.


I could provide a book of arguements supporting that point but there is not enough rsps related sythe players for anyone to give a shit lol.

Jagex re-realsed the grand exchange into Oldschool (It was a 2007 update, but was added to the game after the backup date that Oldschool is based off of) and permanent f2p very recently.

One would expect two very large updates to bring a lot of old/new players over to Oldschool and thus increasing the size of the market. Some of those may come from Rs3 to Oldschool, causing a slight decline in Rs3 alongside the huge increase in Oldschool.

They are not removing P2P though. P2P is still the main bulk of the game, but it is viable to play as a free player with heavy restrictions and it does have its own community (Unless you fund your membership through bonds - One player buys them with IRL money and sells for gp, another buys it for gp and uses it for membership).

 

I see everything picking up with the release of f2p and the grand exchange.

 

I know in my line of work, if I was down 10% I'd be out of a job (wouldn't call it a slight decline). However, hopefully the 50% increase in 07 is the reason why. None the less, 22% positive is very impressive.

 

If you really are the largest market then I don't see how I could compare your gains to the average person or the entire market as a whole.

I'd definitely contribute your good month on 07 in Feb to f2p being released. I'd like to see the % increase from now to 6 months from now and if it grows/stays the same i'd be willing to say i'm wrong about f2p. Still you can't compare yourself to the average person if you are infact not the average person. All that I know for fact is there is a hell of a lot less people playing now than there used to be. I couldn't recommend somebody to start a business now unless they already have notoriety.

 

A 10% drop can indeed be devastating for some businesses, espescially one like ours which operates on very thin margins.

However, keep in mind that PA is an aggregate of marketplaces RS & RS2007 are only two markets on the site out of the 15 major markets we support + the 60 or so mini-markets that are also active on the platform

Generally, the health of the RMT market of a game is indicative of the overal active userbase population of a game. But I understand that RS is unique with regard that many people who participate in RS RMT do so because they play games of chance quite frequently. That being said, you're points are fair, that despite an uptick in performance for our markets, it may not necessarily reflect the actual population activity of RS specifically!

As for individuals, it's not a bad time to start, since they have the greatest flexibility on margins and can therefore fiercely price compete. As long as the demand is there, it's a great time to sell

 

Of course, the 07 growth is due to grand exchange and F2P!

 

As stated above, the main factors for this growth is the recent updates being grand exchange and permanent free to play on oldschool runescape. Dreambot.org has also noticed a rapid increase in members as both were released.
