Update bump rules

In the rules it is not clearly defined whether or not it is allowed to bump a sticky. In my opinion a sticky should not be bumped because it is already at the top of the section.

I noticed not everyone shares the same opinion so my suggestion is to update the rules on this matter.

I agree, the rule should be cleared up, bumping a sticky shouldn't be allowed since it serves no purpose.

I assume this is because of my OBH page? I didn't even know it was stickied, which is why I was bumping it lol. No, you shouldn't bump stickies it shouldn't be a rule because it's pretty obvious lol.

 

No it's because there are some moderators are thinking otherwise.

 

I was under the impression that it was prohibited because the purpose of a bump is to literally "bring up your post" and with a sticky that isn't necessary.

 

I believed that that when all of the threads were stickies, they were bumped (before blade changed the format of the boldholder's threads). I remembered incorrectly, that's on me. Should be handled now, and agreed with OP

 

I'm personally against making it a part of the official rules because there are so little stickys that are used actively, and bumping an informative sticky may be needed at some point.

 

How would bumping a sticky change anything? If there are 4-5 stickies in one forum, bumping one to change it's ordered position has no significant effect because it's still a sticky and is positioned above all other threads. If a sticky is updated with important information, you can simply tag [updated] to the title.

Some section's there are a lot of stickys, and sometimes someone might want to bump one to draw attention back to that one.

While it shouldn't be done everyday by any means(and I'm sure mods can infract if this happens)- once every once in a while(couple weeks or months)- I see no problem with.


While I understand ur idea, I think people should still have the ability to bump a sticky if they wish.

Tbh now that I think about this, I cant think of a reason somebody cant just post something ontopic about that sticky,on the sticky.

If somebodys posting "bump" on a sticky, then yes I agree 100% lol.

 

You cant really bump a thread that never falls off anyways...

 

that's why it should be considered as spamming since posts makes no revelance to the thread and is published just to gain postcount

I don't mind people bumping their stickies, it gets their thread to the index page and promotes their service. The only stickies that would be bumped are the fee-free donation services anyway.

 

I'm going to say "jesus fucking christ". An admin can go look in the admin archives and will find like a literal dozen posts about the bumping rule. I'm down with outright banning bumping on stickied threads or adding a "Subject to section specific rules" so you can allow bumping stickies in whatever silly sections that makes sense in.

 

It seems like this is a contentious issue. I'll post a poll in the staff lounge and we may or may not refit the rules once we come to a decision. Or we will simply let the bond holders know whether they can bump their stickies or not. I'll move this to approved since it'll get the staff all on the same page. Thanks for bringing it up!

 

Update: bumping stickies is not allowed and is counted as spam
