I was just thinking about how when there are donating services, you need to have "bonds" with Sythe. As in, The Black Tux would have to pay Matthew like $1,000 upfront, then he collects $1,000 from donations, then repeat.

Well, what if there was a system like this for everyone?

Example:

Superman runs a bond service. Determinate gives Superman a 100m bond, which Superman puts on a mule. Then Determinate advertises in his signature (and it's put in Superman's thread), that Determinate has a 100m bond, which means that if Determinate ever scams anyone, Superman will pay the scammer user up to 100m to cover the loss. But if Determinate ever wants to get his bond back, he can, he will just have to wait a short period to make sure that no scam reports show up.

Basically just user-run bond services. Kind of like a middleman.

Maybe a dumb idea... But I was just thinking of it today.

This is just like the insurance idea and it was denied. It isn't the sites job to pay back people who got scammed, the market is just a medium for trade.

That's not a terrible idea actually, it would be a good way for new players to prove that they are legitimate. I did this with my poker tournament where I gave pockets 50m which I only received back by paying out the tournament appropriately.

However I could see some issues arising and the bond seller would have to charge a small fee to make it worth their while. Plus only a few people (mainly OMM) would hold bonds for majority of the forum which would be a huge sum, which could be very tempting to "disappear" with.

No chance, I like the way it's done now. Only people who are trusted should handle donations.

Yes they'd pay before hand but I still wouldn't trust some random person just because they have paid $1000 upfront or what ever. It also has nothing to do with trust, you'd just be getting your own cash back.

Example:
I would never scam, why would I give Superman 100M?
I'm planning on scamming, why would I give Superman 100M.

...No support.

It would be a user-run service, not staff. And they don't put up their own money, only the bond money. They can even keep the extra as profit.

If you don't scam, you'd get the 100m back. It'd just be a way to let other people trust you.

That's just it, people who planned on scamming wouldn't do this, which is why it's a good idea.

Why wouldn't they?
If I planned on scamming I'd just give 100M, then when I decide to scam, I'll ask the money back and I'll scam..
And what if you don't have any spare money, like me at the time?

Once the money is given back, your bond is removed, and you're no longer on a thread listed as someone who has a bond... It would just mean people shouldn't trust you with as much. People with bonds would seem more trustworthy.

You don't need spare money. No one would force you to get a bond, it just may be seen as another form of trust.

Okay, unfortunately it isn't going to happen, I like the idea, but I'm pretty sure this won't be happening.

You speak for the entire community now?

It doesn't really even need to be implemented, there's nothing that needs to be done. I don't really know why I posted it here. I'll probably open a "User Service" doing it.

I dont support it. It seems like extra just for nothing. Is there a point in doing this? Everything seems fine the way it is.

You don't have to like it. If you don't want to, it doesn't have to affect you. Just for maybe newcomers who want to prove they're trusted.

This isn't something that really belongs in suggestions. If someone wants to do something like that, and they are able to set it up, then that is fine. However having staff be in control of this won't happen. There is no reason to divert there time by being in charge of anything like this, so if you want to do it I am sure that would be fine, just don't expect staff to be involved.

P.S. I don't suggest doing this as you run the risk of the person holding your bond scamming, which would make it pointless anyways.

I'd have to agree with x339.

It would have to be an unofficial setup and you'd need to coordinate it on a per person basis. It would have to function similarly to how the signature rentals work - you'd need to get OMM's (or the likes) to agree to hold the funds and state on a thread how much they were holding, then it could work as an immediate "middle man" system. The OMM's could take a small amount to make it worth their time or just hold it to show their credibility (would be quite impressive if you were holding 2b of other peoples money).

On the other hand, what happens if the account gets banned or scammed, then the OMM is liable for the loss.

OP: It could work, but as x339 states - you can't really suggest an unofficial change.

It's a good idea really, A bonded seller would surely get more business. And from a buyers perspective, you're much more at ease buying an account, or something longterm of the sorts off a bonded seller.

This site has really gone to shit lately with the amount of scammers and vaders compared to legitimate sellers, Something like this wouldn't be a bad idea at all....

Also @ Everyone who says "It won't be happening", Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't see a global or admin tag on a single one of you, You may be correct it won't be an implemented feature but who's to say there isn't a mod out there who wouldn't mind running such a thing.

Its interesting, however, say someone put up a 100m bond.
If they scam say 500m what happends now, as it makes him seem trusted yet he could just do it to multiple people and then hed have made money.
No support unless that is fixed/resolved somehow.

Also if a person on rs is selling bons, then he should have had matthew confirm the adress identity ect, as the bond seller would be trusted with over 1b most likely, even with it being liek the donation service.

Yet when i look at it again, its pretty much donating but you get your money back if you want, so no support actually, as the donations are what keeps sythe running.

I also shared this idea, and it's good at some point, but it's not... do-able for instance.

This was already denied.

Do whatever you want, if its not breaking the rules then we dont care. Why is this a suggestion?
