Under 18, receiving money with Western Union

Please don't delete this thread. I did some research and found other posts about receiving money with WU but they were old. If you have receive money with Western Union as a minor, please post here. I don't care where you are from but an answer from a Finnish guy would be epic, thanks in advance!!

- I'm 18 in a few months
- I have a valid driver's license

Ps. What if someone sent the money, could I get the money after 3 months?

 

You can receive money at any age as long as you have ID, driver's license is fine. You should be able to pick up the money at any time as long as you have the MTCN.

 

What Roary said is correct; however some states will only accept a formal government registered drivers license. I know some friends who've used their passports (back when they were 16), and were denied collection. I'm sure that's a rare case, but it has happened.

Generally WU holds your money indefinitely once it's sent. I'm not 100% sure if that's the case world wide, but I know that I once forgot about a collection and rocked up 2 months later and they still had it.

 

If you go to a WU and they won't give you your money due to age, you keep going to different ones until you find one that won't care or check

 

But how would he do that ? Doesn't he have to register on the website because it says 18+ ...

 

Collect at the agents physical location.

Parents use this method to send money to kids all the time. I would imagine as long as you have an ID, you are fine.

My mom used this method to send me $100 while I was at camp. I believe I was 16 at the time. Try it out and let us know your results.

Edit: I think that Sellerman means that as long as you pick it up from a physical location, you should be fine. The internet is the only place with an age restriction.

 

You can go to an actual store and pick it up in person, you don't need to register on the site.

 

Thank you so much everyone! I didn't expect this many replies. Good to know that they hold the money for a while so I can wait till I turn 18. I'll let you know if they let me pick up the money (15th of September).
