    Two suggestions for RaSc

Scout from IRC asked me to post this for him. So all credit/concerns are to Scout.

    Suggestion 1-

I remember awhile back you moved the market to the top of Sythe, to give it more "Spotlight" for market users, guests, etc.

Well, I think the RaS section should be moved as a sub-forum in the "Market" section.

Possibly right under the Runescape market section, or right under the MM section.

Why? Typically if a user scams, and proof is posted, or not. People might try and keep scamming until they're banned because they know they're going to be banned anyways, because clearly they don't care about their account if they would scam in the first place. I've seen it happen many times.

What this does, if a person doesn't actively scroll towards the bottom of the forum everytime, let alone look at the scam report section. This might give some more noticeable caution\warnings to users. So maybe you're just looking at the market section and noticed "Jim Bob" had a scam report filed. Maybe 2 hours later Jim Bob contacts you and you're like "Hmm I heard that name before".

Well all I really feel like typing\explaining at the moment, but I feel I've said more than what is needed.

    Leave feedback\criticism.

    Suggestion 2-

Now I’m sure this has been suggested before and I’m aware of the not only the negatives, but the positives as well.
What I want to suggest is allow RaS (Report a Scammer) section to be post-able to the general population.

Why? There are a few reasons, I’ll try and keep this thread short\sweet, listing the pros + cons that come to mind.

    TL;DR vers:

    Pros-

    • It helps victims get support faster.
    • It shows Sythe Staff who is willing to work hard with zero benefit.
    • It will increase the likely hood of scam reports having enough proof.

    Cons-

    • It may confuse newer members.
    • Spam\unnecessary posts would occur.

    Clear explanation for users-

Now allow me to show you how this is useful.

For example, last night Stringcheese filed a scam report, and asked Karl to look at it in IRC. IRC Clearly says not to use it for faster moderator attention, and I'm not saying Karl is lazy, but he was about to get off, so rightfully so he didn't want to deal with it.

I told him if he linked me to it, I would be more than happy to evaluate it with zero bias to see if his proof was sufficient.

    (His thread)

Upon doing so I had him add the pictures of the earlier convo where he was in RS.

He added the 2nd to last pic due to me telling him to add more proof, so a moderator doesn't have to waste his or her time telling him he needs more proof, and hopefully it can be handled with the one time attention of a staff member. (Not the best example)

Since I was online, I felt like just looking at other scam reports out of boredom.

One I came across, was JakeRyan's scam report, and at the time he filed the report, he was Online. (I saw it a few minutes after it was posted)

There are numerous tasks Sythe mods have to do, so by the time FishFishy got to the report 40 minutes later (Which is still an "Impressive" time, considering there is an unanswered scam report 3 days old), it seems like JakeRyan got offline. Had maybe a member who was just in that section looked at it, he/she could of simply said "Hey you need to screen shot your MSN (and insert other things here) convo for proof, check the stickies on help how to do if you don't know how".

That response could of been 20 minutes, or 2 minutes after Jake's thread. I know if I had an account\wasn't banned I would of replied as soon as I saw it.
Now that Jake is offline, and didn't know or think to screen shot the convo. Essentially all credible evidence is lost.

So basically, this gives the chance for intelligent users to assist in scam reports, whilst also making the moderators job slightly easier\lighter.

If you have any critsism\thoughts post them, but in all honesty, I don't see a problem with it. Infract the people who spam or post stupid shit like "Hope he gets banned" "Sucks you got scammed" etc. Infract/warn the people who don't know how to properly help, and advise them not to do so again until they understand how to.

No to opening RaS to user responses. It'd just confuse the member filing the report to receive ten different responses from post-count chasers and mod hopefuls, mixed with incorrect or conflicting advice.

Although, I don't think it'd be a bad idea to let guests post hidden-until-approved threads there, as banned users currently have to either get someone to post for them or get it moved from the dispute section.

I'd only like that the involved reported user could post in his defense.

The RaS section should definitely be moved up to the top. Putting it near community general would be a better idea IMO, it would be very obvious like that
I don't support letting any user post on scam reports, but I do think that the scammer should be able to post in their defense to give a more complete picture of the situation

If we move it up I have no problem. But no way to allowing users to reply. We would have 5 people per saying so an so scammed them when they didn't. And we would have a lot of flaming IMO. People would say stuff like "fuck you scammer" to get post count up.

I support moving it up so more people know about it, but users should not be able to post in the threads.

We're not Powerbot, letting users post on scam reports is asking a war of flames.

I'd rather prefer the current system, where the user has to relay his message through a moderator frist. Prevents any direct flaming and the message is moderated. Plus how would we code something like that?

It's code-able, but there are times user get's banned and then has to dispute, but even if it was resolved and got unbanned the reputation was somehow damaged.

A definite no support to both.

1.) Moving it up gives a very bad impression. New Users will be deterred from trading just by seeing that. I would not trade on a site that has any public reporting of scammers as I would immediately think there was a risk to my safe trading. If anything, I believe the section should be hidden to only the staff who operate it, and the thread visible to the reporter... Allowing open browsing of such does not prevent new users from being scammed, nor does it prove effective in stopping scamming.

2.) For reasons in the above, I obviously disagree with this. But I would also agree with Sin that outside opinion is too much influence when making a decision of this magnitude. Just another reason why the section should be hidden in itself.

The entire concept is flawed, it doesn't work, and there is definitely something to be said about it.

I support a move up for the RaSc so it is more noticeable but people should be able to post because it would just be more moderation work for mods.

    Both denied.

This isn't powerban.org. And regular users have no buisness getting involved in scam reports.

On the other suggestion, it has been denied to be moved 312 times.
