Can we get a Final Staff Ruling on the Discord Issue?

I know I don't personally use the Discord so I'm 100% unbiased here.

It seems there has still not been a decision announced as to whether it is official or unofficial?

The sythe personal information rule states clear as day:
Disclosure of Others' Personal Information: Posting information such as private emails/MSNs, private Skype accounts, Facebook accounts, addresses, phone numbers, private photos, etc. of someone other than yourself without explicit consent of that person will result in up to a 1 month ban regardless of whether or not the information is publicly available

Now however, it appears its not just posting, but putting it anywhere.

The discord has had many many problems regarding IS IT OFFICAL, IS IT AN ENFORCEABLE PLACE FOR THE RULES.

Syed's ban made me realize there is nothing stated to my knowledge regarding this:

The rule clear as day says "posting" not "putting in discord" if your going to issue Sythe bans for discord issues, I believe it should at least be a sticky/announced somewhere so people know.

As far as I was aware it still wasent decided if it was official or was not(Offical= Things u say can effect ur sythe account, unofficial= Things u say CANNOT effect ur sythe account)


Suggestion: Staff team needs to come together and give a concise answer as to what is allowed and what is not allowed on the discord aswell as it needs to be decided if its official/unofficial & to make a thread & stick it.

 

If someone who uses Sythe.org posts someone else' personal info in Discord, I'm going to ban them both off Discord, and Sythe.

 

The rule was written before discord was created. Personal information, pictures, IDs, etc none of that is allowed to be shared without the owner's permission in the discord

The suggestion is to hopefully update the rules or make a sticky regarding it so people know once and for all .

Atm there is no clear ruling, if the staff team is going to ban for leaking personal info there, please update the rules/stick a thread to reflect that is all I'm saying.

 

Tbh can we just change the word "posting" to "leaking" in the rule?

Surely this rule is leaking anyway, as with all the rules a common sense approach should really be taken

The rule applies i believe to leaking information over Skype, it's still enforceable to my knowledge even if it's not directly posted on sythe.org

I think the rule is fine, if people are disputing bans over the wording they're merely looking for a loophole, they should know what they've done is punishable.

 

As previously stated, Discord is unofficial. You can see it as a Skype group chat (for example our Sythe Runescape Chat). Posting real life information will result in a Sythe ban as well - that's why we verify people so we know it's actually them who's posting. There are no rules against flaming or anything, but rules like leaking personal info, scamming etc still apply (as they would in said Skype group chat).

 

Can we drop the pretense that it is unofficial? It is clearly official based on any reasonable definition of the word.

 

I'm a little confused on this.

I've seen multiple pictures of people being posted every time or day in the discord, when has anyone been banned on site because of it. Nobody has until I think recently?

I don't think any express permission is ever given on there, it's just seen as unofficial and a secondary Spam Forum without rules, except the NSFW.

If that's not the case then apply rules and make it obvious that these are enforced. I.E. Also make it official..

 

Someone posted a real life picture of me on discord without my permission. But i'm not a fucking bitch so i don't give a fuck.

OT: It should be obvious that the discord is an extension of Sythe and rules would obviously apply by association.

I think you did enough crying yesterday when you got DNT'd for everyone fam. Although I'd enjoy nothing more than to see your whiny ass banned, I only asked because it seems to me like it's a little one-sided.

But then why not make it official? If you're going to enforce rules in an extension of Sythe, make it official.

Official definition: relating to an authority or public body and its duties, actions, and responsibilities

Sythe is the public body, so clearly it's an official extension of you're going to make people accountable for whatever rule they break?

To be fair, arguing whether the Discord is 'Official' or 'Unofficial' is beside the point as to what rules are or are not enforced in it; whether to define it as 'Official' or 'Unofficial' is time spent on a question which gives no answer. For example, if you scammed on the Discord, you couldn't rely on the fact that it was 'Unofficial' to successfully dispute a ban. The rules apply to actions committed by the user. Some user actions committed offsite make no sense to punish - obviously not going to punish someone flaming on a reddit thread... Some user actions committed offsite are punished, eg blackhat and scamming. Other user actions are in between, for example, releasing personal information.

Anyway, I agree that the rules should clarify the sites position. I'd also just point out that, at least in this instance, the application of the rule shouldn't be all that surprising to those that frequent Discord, considering hattez was banned by Sythe (then unbanned) for allegedly releasing Gun's information not long ago.

 

This is just history of tinychat and irc repeating itself.

It's a separate entity, but I think you should be held responsible for your actions within it. No, not everything i.e. spamming, flaming, and general fuckery, but more serious infractions against other individuals. You are not able to phish, scam, etc. off site and able to (fully) remain at Sythe and I don't think Discord is any different.

For example, if you're doxxing someone on Skype and discord to fellow Sythe members, but do not post on Sythe itself, should you be banned? I think yes (note: this is an example, not a reference to the current situation).

 

The rules of Sythe still apply to the discord I'm pretty sure, regardless if it is unofficial or not
