    Tips on getting rid of a fear of change?

    My fear of change is really starting to piss me off. If anything I know changes with potential permanence, I get anxious and begin to panic internally.

    This happens when I get things like a new job, when I go to new schools, but right now it's bugging me because of my romantic life. I think I have the opportunity to ask this great girl out, but my brain is convincing me not to because it's different from what it knows. I'm not nervous, I've gone out with girls before, but with this one I think she might one day be my girlfriend which is regrettably something I've never had before.

    I want this feeling gone. I want to experience new things that may become permanent without fearing that permanence. Any tips?

    Tips on getting rid of a fear of change?

    I don't know if thats fear of change, cause it sounds more like anxiety. Social anxiety to be more exact. Now Im not doctor so I can't official say that, but in my opinion, as someone who has social anxiety, that definitely sounds like something I too get anxious about.

    The only tip I can give you about that is, to expose yourself more to these things. Go out, meet new people, start random chats with strangers, this confrontational approach sometimes helps releave the anxiety because it shows you how harmless it really is and that there is nothing to be anxious about. You will notice people are friendly and will actually talk back and the more you put yourself out there, the easier it will get and eventually that anxiety will be easier to deal with.

    I looked it up, if I do have social anxiety it's very mild. I'm absolutely fine in social interactions since I'm outgoing and generally friendly, but if something is about to change in permanence to what I know then I get a bit uneasy. What's weird is that all it takes is some getting used to. Most of the times where this has happened, I'd never go back to how things were before.

    Hmm interesting scenario, being anxious about change is natural it keeps our senses sharp as far as getting a girlfriend there is almost nothing to worry about in regards to downsides to asking someone you like out. If you can convince yourself that you can overcome that fear I believe.

    You could try this;

    Force yourself to do different things you wouldn't normally do, after work go to the swimming pool and do x amount of lengths, wake up early and go for a jog, slowly build these little things into big changes and I'm sure you'll gradually get better, changing habits can be hard though, and no doubt you may find this hard, but if you keep putting yourself in situations you normally wouldn't be in you will get better.

    I have to stick to a routine, I have so many logs on Excel of what i will be doing at certain times and I recently had to leave home to go into hospital because of a chest infection it drove me insane not being able to stick to my routine, if you ever want to chat, feel free to message me in any way you like.

    I agree with this, constantly think about what could you possibly have to lose instead of thinking omg change panic.

    Not everything in life is a life-changing thing, so stop treating everything like it is. I personally think with a problem like this the only person who can help you, is YOU, no body else can make you not fear change, you have to learn to adapt and realise the insignificance/importance of change and accept it into everyday life, it happens, and you have to deal with it.

    There is no magical way of doing this, you just have to be a "yes" man. No-one can fix this but yourself. Good luck bud!
