Threads With Links - Await Verification From Mod?

This is my suggestion, when someone with less than 100 posts(?), posts a link, the thread should await moderation before being visible to the rest of us.

I myself fell for one of these Java Drivebys, and do not want for this to happen for anyone else.

Obiously Imageshack and other trusted imagehosts would be allowed.

What do you think?

 

I doubt that can be added into the current system....

 

I guess you could, but keep in mind there would be over a thousand that are just posting imageshack links.

 

That means we need a moderation queue for every thread with pictures.

I wish something like this could be implemented, but I don't know if it is even POSSIBLE nor would it be practical. It would make everyone interested in selling nearly ANYTHING have to spam or spend a great deal of time thinking out posts so they can sell an item as in most cases it is against the rules to start a thread without having pictures.

Also, on the moderators side it would take forever, and increase their load substantially.

I don't think you can select from a certain sites to allow.
And to now allow.
And it will force mods to take a lot more time, reviewing threads (Accounts sales/etc) form newcomers.

I'm not sure if you know how the posts awaiting moderation works. It's highly unlikely a mod would go through each and every post awaiting moderation and make sure the links are real. This is not practical and waste so much time. They'd all most-likely be checked as approved and the staff member would move on.

I'm not exactly sure this can be implemented. Last time I checked it was only able to be done to certain forums/child forums etc.

Also, I think that your suggestion would mean a lot more work for the moderators and anyone that did want to phish would just attempt to get passed the detection system just like they do all over youtube.

 

And what is stopping someone from making a legit post, then later on, editing it and inserting a link.

It can be added, and actually isn't too difficult, but the problem is it could leave security gaps in the system structure.

Anyways as for my opinion, I can tell you it is possible. It could be practical, under the right circumstances. However, if you are proposing to do this and make the general market moderators have to approve them.. that is too much. If another whole system were set up then yes. Ultimately, it will take too much effort for a fairly (comparatively) insignificant change.

Are you really aware of the current VB system of Sythe and its limitations? Because, yes, it is pretty easy with most VB; however, Sythe.org has issues with a lot of simple things because updating the vBulletin is infeasible.


I'll rarely ever support a suggestion that involves censorship, and this is not one of them. I'm not going to have every newcomer's post with a screenshot link screened for viruses. It's too much work; but even more so, it's intimidating, insulting, and off-putting to new members. I definitely wouldn't want to wait 2-24 hours for my market threads with a screenshot to get posted.

(Yes, I know screenshots aren't URL links, but most hosting websites have a "forum code" which does have a URL redirect and is used more often than not with most newbies.)

 

Sounds like a good suggestion but it would just be too much work for the mods. They already have enough to do, having to approve a bajillion links every day would make it even harder.

People just need to check the links before they click them -.-

Also defeated by the fact people post imageshack links that dont go to imageshack....
