"Thread Resolved" Option in Thread options

    Hey,
On a programming site i frequent, they have a thread option called "Mark Thread as Resolved". What it does is.....well marks the thread as resolved by adding the tag "[Resolved]" to the user's thread title.
This alerts other users that the thread topic/issue has been resolved and there is no need to view the thread AND/ALSO it may assist users whilst using the search option, as the user will be able to see resolved threads and this in turn may help them find the answer to what they are looking for faster and pervent posting a duplicate thread.

    Please note:
Only the OP (Original Poster of the thread) will be able to use the 'Mark thread as resolved'. So this does NOT give thread locking abilities to the general public.

Here is some pictures of how the other forum is set up:-
The "Mark Thread as Resolved" option:

The result of using that thread option:

Did some Googling and this mod is already released all an Admin has to do is add the updated/changed files. View the link below to see what this mod does and the steps to add it - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=149214

It wouldn't be that hard to edit the vBulletin code to do this, and i'm sure that Sythe, Matthew or possibly other Admins would have enough knowledge on the matter to do it. It may also be better to 'Lock' the threads that have been marked as resolved to stop future gravedigging.

The benefits of doing this are:
    • Less threads being grave dug.
    • User's using the search option find the answer to their question quicker.
    • Possibly less duplicate threads due to the above ^.
    • Less load on forum moderators.
    • Possibly more that i haven't though of...

    The Cons:
    • Would probably take around 1 hour of down time to add this mod.

    Anyway, post you're thoughts.

I like this. It is in a way what The Black Tux suggested. If you go in most sections you'll see many threads that already have an answer are still posted in and in the end you get about ten people posting the same excact thing.

Ahh true, just searched for "The Black Tux's" thread, and yer it's pretty much what he was/is suggesting.
None the less it will be a great/needed addition to the site for minimal effort.

As FlyingToast was saying, this complements my suggestion allowing users to mark as resolved and lock the thread by their own.

    Support.

I support this completely and if only the person who created the thread can mark it as resolved, then it would be pretty efficient for it to auto-lock the thread as well.

The only reason I don't like this, and the reason I don't close threads that are resolved is this: Just because the OP's question has been met doesn't mean that there isn't still a good discussion going on. One seemingly small question can spur a lengthy on-topic debate.

If the OP notices a debate or discussion I doubt he will close the thread. This would apply to threads like the one's that regularly occur in the RS section for example when someone goes like "What bot should I use" and 10 people say "RSBuddy" or someone asks "Where should I mine" and everyone says "LRC".

Is it possible to only make this available in the different sub-forums related to sales? If someone is selling/buying something and the thread is resolved, then there would be no on-topic debate that could be possible.

There are some sections where this can be done, some not.

I'd like to see it in all sections, as i don't see how it can have a negative effect.
If it does need to be limited due to User neglect (even though it's only the OP that can use it), just make it available to the usergroup related to post count.
ie. Have 100 posts before you can see this option in thread tools.

Would be fantastic if this got implemented. Major cut down on spam and wasted time clicking threads

Yeah I also thought about it, but I'd make it for 250+ posts. In that case, all sections should have the option.

Sounds reasonable and it would stop threads from being overloaded with the same answers by many different people.

I support this. People tend to not read anything but the original post and end up posting information that doesn't help because the problem has already been resolved. Or offers to accounts that have already been sold. Good idea.

I support, most of the time I report my threads once they get resolved and I'm sure Mods would rather have valid reports instead of requests for thread locks. Also when you PM some Mods, they tell me to report it so I have no clue which one to do and I think this suggestion would really help.

Just did a google search on this, and they're are plenty of mods out there that are basically the the same as what I'm suggesting.
Do an admin will only have to copy n paste code instead of writing it themselves.

I still don't support this. I just don't like the level of disorganization that it will bring to Sythe.
