    Qur’an 3:56
    Qur’an 5:51

Among others, the book does have a fair few hate 'preaching's' in. Then there is Aisha...

Qur'an 3:56 - Don't see anything wrong with that do you expect God to not punish you? Where would be the justice in that...

Qur’an 5:51 - This verse was revealed during the time where the christians and jews were at war with the muslims. So not taking them as friends was in that context.

"And there are, certainly, among the People of the Book [Jews and Christians], those who believe in God, in the revelation to you, and in the revelation to them, bowing in humility to God: They will not sell the Signs of God for a miserable gain! For them is a reward with their Lord, and God is swift in account. (The Noble Quran, 3:199)"

"Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book [Jews and Christians] are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of God all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: They are in the ranks of the righteous. (The Noble Quran, 3:113-114)"

And the age of Aisha (ra) is still debated. Some evidence suggests her marriage was consummated at 9-10 years old and other evidence says from 14-18 years.

    Thoughts on Islam.

My thoughts on islam is the same as any other religion. It has and will forever be used to control people. In a way it's good to have norms to live by ("don't kills, steal etc") but I can't really understand why people believe in one or another religion. I see most of them as a bunch of fairy tales.

I think it's okay to believe in something(someone?) bigger than us but to choose any single religion and say that "this is the one and only" just seems plain stupid. Why some people choose to do so is beyond my understanding. But I guess this is where media brainwashing comes in.

'And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them' - Disbelieve & be punished.. so if you're a non-believe, you should be punished?

As for Qur’an 5:51, That isn't the only verse where 'not taking them as friends' is mentioned or touched upon.

Qur'an (3:85) - "And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers."

Qur'an (53:29) - "Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world."

Apologies for the double post, assuming nobody posts whilst I'm typing this.

Here are some more quotes from the Qur'an which are a bit of a sensitive area... I could list a far few more, too :

Qur'an (2:207) - "And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah..."

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Qur'an (4:11) - (Inheritance) "The male shall have the equal of the portion of two females"

Qur'an (8:39) - “And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allah Alone [in the whole of the world ]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allah), then certainly, Allah is All-Seer of what they do.” Translation from the Noble Qur'an.

    Thoughts on Islam.

    I think context is important:

Quran (3:52-57) But when Jesus felt [persistence in] disbelief from them, he said, "Who are my supporters for [the cause of] Allah ?" The disciples said," We are supporters for Allah . We have believed in Allah and testify that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].
Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger Jesus, so register us among the witnesses [to truth].
And the disbelievers planned, but Allah planned. And Allah is the best of planners.
when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.
And as for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have no helpers.
But as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards, and Allah does not like the wrongdoers.

God is telling the story of the people during Jesus's time who disbelieved in him and punished him.

Doesn't mention anything about befriending Christians or Jews.

This verse is addressed to Muhammad (saw) and tells him to refrain from engaging in scholarly arguments and discussions with these people, since their utmost extent of knowledge is to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh and they may not transcend perceptible bounds.

I treat people no different no matter what religion they believe in it's a non-issue to me. Although I do judge them on their will power... who can resist bacon.

    Thoughts on Islam.

This verse is referring to the Prophet's nephew who slept in his bed to take his place. While the prophet left the city so nobody found out.

    Already explained in above post.

In Islam a woman has no financial obligation and the economical responsibility lies on the shoulders of the man. Before a woman is married it is the duty of the father or brother to look after the lodging, boarding, clothing and other financial requirements of the woman. After she is married it is the duty of the husband or the son. Islam holds the man financially responsible for fulfilling the needs of his family. In order to do be able to fulfill the responsibility the men get double the share of the inheritance.

And this verse refers to the polytheists in Makkah who at the time had their idols in the Ka'bah the prophet was ordered to destroy their idols. The previous verse explains that if they stop the idol worship in the Kabah then no action should be taken .
Quran (8:38) Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.

The whole problem is people take these verses out of context. Not just non muslims but some extreme muslims aswell.

You've taught me a thing or two Pakistani, thank you.

I guess you're right about the whole context thing, I wasn't aware of the context of some of these verses.

A lot of my views are based on situations that happen in England, which I can see is your location too. Here, there are clear problems with extreme Muslims, which I'm sure you are aware of and there is no need to get into. But like I said from the very start, I've no problem with your 'everyday' Muslim, and I don't mean any offence by that!

Agreed with the many people saying the media controls the image we have of Muslims and the Islam in general. I live in Holland, and I read an article today about the Central African Republic and the brutalities carried out there by the militias. The title literally said "Muslim Extremists Behead Children and Practice Cannibalism in CAR."

The article started by giving some basic information about what's going on in the CAR, about the christian militias versus the Islamitic militias etc. Then after that there was a paragraph literally depicting the Muslims as the bad guys while both militias slaughter entire villages..

Me personally, I wouldn't give a shit. Whether you're black, white, asian, a muslim, a catholic or a christian, you're all people to me. I, myself, am an atheist. I don't care about religion and think it's all just fake, and I think religion is more bad than good, just look at the huge amount of wars that only started because people believed in different things (Gods).

I'm an atheist, so muslims, christians, jews; they're all the same to me. Normal people who have a strange belief that muttering into the air and bowing before an idol will bring good fortune. Their belief doesn't change my opinion about them as a person.

The only thing that actually repels me about these people is when they try to force their religion on me.

I think this post is a little pointless. If you fully believe in your religion why would you care about what others think about it?
