Thoughts on Deadman Mode?

Sorry I cannot link you to the thread about it on the forums as I am at work, but I wanted to know what you guys think about the new idea of a Deadman Mode / what your strategy would be to building your account.

I'll post a quick run down of what Deadman Mode is for those of you that are to lazy to Google it!

Deadman mode is a new game mode for Old School. Deadman mode accounts can log into deadman where's pvp os active everywhere. No exceptions. The aim of deadman mode is to create an intense PvP experience across the entire game world.

Death in deadman mode means more than respawning in Lumbridge without your items. You also face the following two consequences:

All of your stats are lowered by 7 levels
A single-use key is dropped to whoever killed you that allows them access to your bank. If they so choose, they will be able to clear your bank out completely. This will be explain in more detail below.



Now of course these are just ideas as they plan on releasing in October.

In my personal opinion this game mode is sick af. The perfect game mode for myself and my two buddies. ( would only play with two friends so that we can gank ppl )

I do however no agree with the loosing 7 levels no matter what. I think there should be a scaling system with 7 levels being lost if maxed out at 99. But loosing 7 attack levels if I'm level 12 attack just sounds dumb.

If this mode where to be released, within the first five hours I would try to complete the waterfall quest as I would then have a huge advantage over my opponents. After that I would fish until I have about 200 food ready to go. From there just quest my little heart out. Oh and always be surrounded by my two buddies to discourage people from attacking. (Hopefully everywhere is multi!)

Anyone have any thoughts on this mode?

Personally I stopped playing both old school and rs3 alittle while back but I very much like the idea of this. First time iv heard anything about it and will have to research it more but I just might play and see when it comes out

 

I think it'll be a really fun mode to play, from watching a bit of ult pvp. But, I do think the level penalty for dying is a bit too harsh, especially given that there's no mode-wide xp boost. Maybe tweaking those two things will make it a bit more appealing.

Also, I heard you will only be able to play deadman mode on a separate account? Guess this is OSRS's alternative to microtransactions...

 

Yeah would have to make a brand new account, I can see why though. It makes things fair for everyone as a level 126 can attack a level 3. So if you where able to bring in your maxed account with max hybrid gear it wouldn't be fair to mid level players.

 

Personally, I can't wait for this mode. Do I have to pay for another membership to play this mode though?

I bet it'll be dead within two weeks. 'Dead' as in less active than there are bots on classic.

 

Doubt i'm going to play it since it looks like they want u to make another account and purchase membership just to play, also, it's just going to be dominated by clans..

 

The extra penalties on death seem ridiculous, but I like the mode idea. I can't imagine that it will stay popular though.

 

I'm really looking forward to this mode (if it passes vote), will be interesting to see how clans will dominate the world

 

Didn't even think about the clans, I wonder if you will have access to G.E and such or if it will truly be its own little thing, kinda like ironmen. Maybe it won't be multi either.

On a good note sounds like cities will be pretty safe as the guard will F your world up.

 

It would be fun, but I won't pay extra to make an account for it. At least not for long. I think there was a poll on reddit that had 85%+ people say they wouldn't either.

Also, if it were all multi, I doubt I would play it at all. It would just be ruled by clans, and I don't play enough/want to join a large clan.

 

I would probably try it out for sure.

 

Death penalties are a little bit extreme. Other than that sounds pretty fun.

The idea doesn't sound too amazing tbh. Why the hell would you want to play a mode where you could potentially lose 7 levels on ALL of your levels + all of your bank if you die to someone lol. Plus you have to buy a new membership just to play it which is just a different way for Jagex to cash in on us. If they want it to ever be succesful they need to let players play the dead man mode on our current accounts rather than having us make new accounts.

 

I meant more along the lines of being able to have access to the mode on your current account, the two would be separated. Like said above, Jagex is releasing these new modes where we are forced to make a new account and buy membership if we want to participate.
