[Thoughts?] Changes to the Granite Maul.

I know there are a lot of PKers on Sythe, so I'm wanting to hear everybody's thoughts in regards to Jagex's impending update.

For those that don't know, Jagex has three stages/types of updates:

Integrity Changes, To Be Polled Changes, and To Be Discussed Changes.

In short, Integrity Changes are forced without community feedback, Polled allows the community to decide, and To Be Discussed are changes in an initial discussion/idea phase.

Well, Jagex announced on July 9th that they are rolling out a change to the granite maul. The maul will now utilize 60% special attack in PVP situations, effectively removing the double special attack feature. However, players can spend 10M BH points to purchase a special addition to the maul which re-enables the 50% attack feature. This produces around a 1M GP difference in the use of the maul and it is lost once the player is sent back to Lumbridge.


Personally, I don't like it one bit. I wouldn't have liked it if it was polled.. but adding it as an integrity chang is almost disrespectful. I feel they did it like this because it wouldn't pass a poll, effectively forcing it on the community.
The GM has been a staple of RS & PVP since 2005. It's really frustrating to me that Jagex would make a fundamental change to a weapon that's remained constant for ~14 years.

What are y'all thoughts on this? Like / Dislike?

I have input and i think that it is a good thing only for the reasons that a gmaul is a great spec attack weapon that can fuck people up just as good as an ags, without the need for risking much gp like 30k..

However i think the same as you its bullshit that they haven't polled it so you are right its disrespectful.

I believe its to make another cash sink ingame

 

It should be an add-on that costs a solid 10M GP to get which is automatically lost on death and the other player will get 1M cash.

I would be fine with it if the clamp dropped on death/was a rare drop from Grotesque Guardians.

Turning into coins and always being lost on death seems kind of lame..

I don't think the gmaul is that bad. Yes, it can stack out full hp but it's so damn inaccurate and we've had much better str/accuracy bonuses available in rs2 that you could combine with a gmaul and we survived through that period of time just fine.

@I KO I completely agree with everything you said.. including grotesque guardians. I’m still 100% against it, but I’d be okay with that. You’re right, it’s horribly inaccurate which is why it doesn’t cost as much as an AGS. If the maul were some crazy “be all end all” PVP weapon of mass destruction then the market would command a MUCH higher price for it.

The market can't command a higher price for something when the market is flooded from gargoyle bots. The granite maul is disgusting at low levels and a lot of people i know are happy with the change. Use a DDS if you want a 20k spec weapon.

Good point, I retract my previous statement. I think a better fix might have been for them to decrease the drop rate.. heck, even decrease the accuracy of its special attacks (which are already tremendously lower than other spec weapons I.E. DDS, AGS, etc.).
Here's another issue I have with the nerf and with your post.

So now we're in a position where 60 attack accounts STILL have a cheap spec weapon, whereas 50 attack accounts have absolutely nothing in terms of a spec weapon unless they risk 20x the value of their opponent with 60 attack. Just doesn't seem right. Doesn't solve the issue in my opinion.

I doubt it. Two points I'd like to make here:
1) A lot of bridding doesn't involve Gmaul. Gmaul is wildly inconsistent when any form of defence comes into play. A lot of main bridding doesn't utilize gmauls, and I doubt most pures are going to want to take a gmaul much higher than edge wild when they can opt for a dds for under $50k. We'll see though!

Although! It will change the META which is going to be cool.

 

It’ll just put more emphasis on DDS I think.

 

I don't pk nearly as much as I used to and haven't for quite some while now but this doesn't feel alright to me. I get the GP sink but still. It's a nostalgic and great weapon especially in the PKing scene for so long. My opinion is kind of weird though because I somewhat understand it from the opposite side aswell. 75/25 on this I guess.

 

This is just my opinion but i think they should not do any changes to gmaul, the weapon has been for ages in the game. If they wanna change do it in rs3.
