These guides are all terrible.

Unless you have knowledge which is;
a) Not common
b) Not in a readily available format, and
c) A common subject of mistakes

CLARIFICATION OF EACH CRITERION;
a) Nothing which could be answered in one line by another member ("How do I delete history etc." "tools>delete private data)
b) NOTHING WHICH HAS OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION ON (How do I install/use winrar), ESPECIALLY if your guide is WORSE than the original documentation!
c) "Here's how to avoid a runtime error in Runescape on a 64-bit Sun workstation chip if you aren't patched for Y2K" is not a good idea for a guide.


Make sure your guide fits all these criterion before posting, because, honest to God, a guide on how to install winrar? On how to use Tools>Clear Private Data in Firefox?

I agree. Most of these guides plain suck due to the fact that half of Sythe has anywhere between the intelligence of a pile of dog shit and my foot.

 

So far, the threads have been extremely sloppy, with minimum attention to necessary detail.

 

If you don't know more than the rest of the members, you can't effectively educate them. I don't mean to say gtfo unless you have mad skills or imply anything like that, but if you're going to make a guide about java, please make sure you know how to work it. If you're not computer-literate, make a guide about something IRL! The workout guide is excellent and well-sourced, for example.

 

Darby, just because I know you will tell me the truth. What did you think of my 2 guides? It's alright no matter what you say, constructive criticism builds stronger confidence. But I do agree, a lot of the guides (computer based) are much too simple to even write guides about. The titles just aren't compelling enough to look at.

 

I'd say you're a prime example to the rest, actually. You source your guides well, you include pertinent details, and you don't try to write about a subject you don't have knowledge of.

 

I'm actually working on an amazing Jmacro guide right now and how to use the macro. I know it wasn't made on Sythe but Speedster239 is a member here and i'm pretty good with JMacro. It's very close to undetectable and able to be minimized. Do you think that would be a decent guide idea?

 

Runescape guides are officially discouraged, and it would need to be very detailed. If you feel you can meet those requirements, then do it.

Some of these guides are decent but some of them are filled with nonsense that my 10 year old brjother would know. I think what feeds these people to make some of these guys is that they must be approved to be in the approved. Once approved, I guess they would feel important.

 

I personally like www.wikihow.com for this utter non sense to fill my heart content. =D

 

I agree, the people in charge of UE should be more restrictive when it comes to judging guides. I would step in and intervene, but I've been too damn busy.
