Well, some of the actual items that were aboard the ship have been sold for millions I heard on the news. That being said, someone making a replica ship doesn't really surprise me. As for it being a good/bad idea, I think the owner won't really care what anyone else thinks too much.

I think this would be a good idea. It would be nice to step aboard the ship (even if only a replica) that has made a big impact in history, and go on the same voyage that the were set to sail upon. However everyone knows it will cost more then the average human being can afford to even setp aboard this ship once created.. He won't lose much money in making it, he will make it all back from rides / cruises ETC. I think it will be a big hit tho none the less.

It's a really wonderful market, I could imagine people lining up to pay big bucks for a 3 day cruise on the titanic II, let hope they build it with enough lifeboats this time.

It would be really funny if it hit an iceberg again and everyone died.

I heard about this a while ago, I guess it was originally planned to happen on the day the titanic actually sank 100 years ago.

I've got a bad feeling about this... something tells me that replicating a ship that was so badly flawed it snapped in half and sunk isn't a good idea.

It's just going to look the same and be the same size. The hull is going to be different and it is going to be fully modern. They are putting the stacks on it for looks but they aren't going to do anything. It's going to be much safer.

Is it just me or does it feel like it's in a way disrespecting the Titanic?

It would be a good idea; our way of sailing has improved since that time, so the likelihood of it sinking is much lower. I would love to see a replica of the ship, and I'm sure many others would like to see it, as well.

Oh man, that would be so tragically funny.

I am just shocked it took this long to happen, I was thinking someone would of been inspired after the first release of the movie to go ahead and recreate it. The profit he is going to get from this on the first couple of trips is going to be insane. Titanic is my girlfriends favorite movie, maybe I could get a trip on it at some point.

It is a pretty cool idea and is going to be amazing to see but its still one of those "Damn...Why the hell" things.

You could say that but I see it as more of commemorating the iconic ship.

this guy is a billionaire, don't think he will care too much if the profits sink.. (punstatic)

I think it's a great idea, would be great to see such an icon living again, and with quality steel this time ;). Apparently when you book a room on the Titanic II there is a plaque on the wall with information on the people that stayed in that room on the first Titanic and how they died 0.0
    source: national news
-they've also sold half of the rooms already for it's maiden voyage

He would be a complete moron if he didn't insure the ship... The issue is trying to make profits with it when other cruise liners can carry more people and not cost as much.

This is true, i was referring to him losing money by lack of business, rather than the ship sinking.

Although like it says in the article "If you’ve got a niche, it’s going to work". I wonder how long it will be until the novelty wares off.

Meh. The ship is smaller than other cruise liners now but still holds 1500ish people. It shouldn't be hard to find that many people who want to and are able to afford a more expensive and nice cruise. But meh... time will tell. It's a nice idea anyways and can give people a real sense of what the actual ship was like.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read the title was the film Titanic and I cracked up at the thought of a second one. I think rebuilding the ship is actually a really good idea. In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been done already. It would be great for tours, parties, etc and could even be turned into a hotel/restaurant. I definitely wouldn't want to take a cruise on it or anything though considering how much more advanced ships are today anyways.

How? If anything, it would be the perfect memorial for those who died.

Someone had the idea back in 2000 as well but it didn't go anywhere.
