Good job and thanks for hosting, Roary. Just a few suggestions, though:

I think the quiz would be much more enjoyable if everyone had the ability to participate in each of the rounds. Even if you're adamant about the idea of having a representative from each team head a specific category, maybe think about making it a group chat in which everyone can read the questions, but only the representative and host can answer. It's kind of awkward waiting for a round to finish. Also, in my opinion, googling takes the fun out of the quizzes. It sometimes felt like it was not a game of intelligence but who can type in the questions fast enough in a search engine. To counter this in the quizzes I hosted, they had a 10 second limit. You either know it or you don't. Some of the questions fueled this concept, too. I don't know many people who can cite the couple on the cover of April's edition of Vogue on the spot. Maybe try asking questions that people should know, but can challenge you, as well.

I hope I don't come off as rude. I think you're doing a great job, and I express my gratitude for all those who participated in the making of the quiz. I just think implementing these suggestions can add a different dimension to the game.

 

Its hard enough trying to keep track of who's saying what with one person from each team in a chat if I'm honest - and those who know the answers will answer faster than using Google, which was the rationale behind using Google.

I'll continue to run it the same for the remaining two weeks of this block to keep it fair and then look at other possibilities for change/improvement

 

When I hosted, I kept a notepad open with each member grouped with their team and added points to their total as the game progressed. I would count it up towards the end and there usually would be no hassle. While that is true, having questions like "who was on the cover of April's edition of Vogue" fuel that concept. I felt like everyone who was playing just googled, and I didn't find it very fun. In my opinion, adding a rule in which search engines are disallowed would make the game that much more enjoyable.

Alright. However, it would be great if you could look into making the chat available for everyone to see but only make it available for the individuals participating to actually answer. Like I said, it is kind of awkward waiting for a round to finish. It kind of ruins part of the "team concept" when we don't even know how well one of our teammates is doing.

Well, you don't need the ability to restrict certain individuals from talking, you can just tell people that only the participants may answer. If you don't like anyone but the participants talking, you could even impose penalties. Also, maybe Skypechat would be a better platform for these quizzes. The IRC was great, and I feel like Skypechat could replicate a similar atmosphere.

You can add everyone to a chat and set people to spectator so they can't talk while they're not answering questions. Seems like unnecessary hassle. Maybe you can post all the questions after each week's round to the first post? I think that's what most people are curious to see.

Doing it via sythechat might be a hassle since a lot of people still seem to have problems logging in.

 

Good idea! However, I don't see how that is much of a hassle. It's not going to take an hour, just a couple of minutes at most, right? Besides, the product of which is going to be much better than one where you just wait for a round to end.

Oh, I didn't know people had trouble accessing SytheChat. I've never had any problems using it. Oh well, I guess Skype is fine as a medium for these quizzes.

You can do that on Skype, yes. But I find myself multitasking enough during it than swapping everyones roles all the time. It's not something I really want to do. Plus, with the whole team viewing there's more chance of cheating and so on.

I'll continue it how it has been for this month. I'll probably be doing it monthly thereafter - don't really have the spare time to be organising it weekly. Friday night mayne.

Categories this week will all be genre's of music. Rap/Hip-hop, Country, Rock & Pop.

 

It's just a friendly quiz, I doubt anyone would cheat. Also, if it helps, I could keep score. However, I understand it's your quiz, so if you don't like the changes, than I have to respect your wishes.
