the reason why marijuana is illegal

i think i figured it out...

it is illegal because the government wants this drug (which has little known health effects) to be the most popular dealt drug instead of something else, let me explain...

if you were it legalize it, then stores would sell it and they would compete to sell it for cheap. they could sell it extremely cheap because of the fields of it that people could be permited to grow. so drug dealers couldn't make profit off of a drug which has a set value that is very cheap, so drug dealers would try to sell other drugs to make money. by doing this they will be selling more dangerous drugs and producing more dangerous/addictive drugs. with such addictive drugs people would steal and crimes would increase so that they could pay for their addiction.

but if the government kept marijuana illegal then people will still do it but there will be less crimes, less deaths, less cancer and less dangerous drugs out there.

but i hope that when marijuana becomes legal, kids wont be like "hey lets go do heroin because its illegal and well be t3h sh1t!"

what i hope will happen is that tobacco and all those other drugs would die off and everyone would hit the good ol mary j.

i think we need to teach drug education in school, like what drugs are good and what drugs fuck you up to prevent having all the cool kids doing meth and everyone else doing it to try to be cool.

or we can just put an age limit on marijuana so it will be like alcohol and kids will still do it to be cool.

 

No. The reason marijuana is illegal is because it's harmful and turns ordinary people into complete morons.

Yes, there are drugs that are almost as bad (tobacco) which are still legal, but that doesn't mean they SHOULD be legal.

Naw but what x9 said is most likely the reason the government bans marijuana, I don't even think the government in its present state is smart enough to come up with what what dogoncouch came up with.

Umm it was made illegal quite a while ago when society was a lot more uptight and there wasn't a lot of scientific research. I mean they even banned alcohol but it was eventually repealed.

Now pot is a bit more damaging healthwise than alcohol but it's still practically legal in some states.

Another reason marijuana won't be legalised is that dealers would have to move onto something new which would mean they would be pushing the more hardcore drugs.

 

yah lol this is exactly it i know kids who smoked cig to be cool but then went to "pot" cause it was "illigal" but if pot was legal it would just become like ciggerates and then people wouyld be doing heroin cause it was "illegal" w/e doesnt really matter all drugs should be eradicated from society

 

erm... no, not really.

The reason it got made illegal was the Dupont company wanting to make profit on their wood pulping system (US), basic racism as there was a fear of white kids getting into (at the time) a prominently 'black drug' (uk / europe), general concern over the inability to get tax from it (easy to grow and usable in small quantities unlike tabaco, easy to refine and process unlike alcohol), and then a load of medical misinformation generated as a justification for making it illegal (cause all of the above just wouldn't cut it with the public so nothing like a health scare, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reefer_Madness).

plus you have the problem that dope prices have gone up with inflation whilst hard drugs haven't, which means they are effectively cheaper than they used to be, so even if it was their plan it failed.

nice idea in theory (ie your theory of 'don't trust what a government says about drugs / mostly anything') but doesn't work out in the end when you look at the facts.

 

Im the first pothead that will attack you:
Alcohol is worse, it ruins your liver, and when you're drunk, you don't know what you do. It's addictive when you (ab)use it alot, weed isn't (only for the few weakminded morons here)! How many people have been killed by drunk driving, or drinking too much alcohol every year? I dunno, but it's alot. How many people die from weed? NONE.
Cigarettes are way more harmful. If you're gonna say: there are more chemicals, etc... in joints, think twice. Who on earth will smoke the same amount of weed, as they smoke in cigarettes a day? I see people puff 10-20 cigarettes a day, who in your neighboorhood smokes 10 joints? You got them 'hardcore' [/sarcasm] pothead, who smoke up to 5 a day, than yes, it is more harmful. But most people don't smoke pot every day, most people do smoke tabacco every day, day in day out, for years, untill they get lung cancer, and need to breath from an oxygen bottle.

 

Maybe but I think the reason is that if it was made legal then people would abuse it. It's a fact that everything is ok when taken in proportion such as alcohol, but when people abuse these things such as alcohol then it can have terrible affects on your body and lifestyle. If cannabis was made legal then people would abuse it and smoke too much and end up in hospital. It is also seen as a gateway drug, meaning people who stop getting the "buzz" from it turn to harder drugs. I think thats totally false but I think it's better that it's illegal because if it wasn't then most people would be constantly stoned. It is debatable that it causes mental illness, which I believe to some extent is true. I've saw some people change personalities when being involved with this type of drug. The government would also be blamed for any deaths caused by users who would not use the drug responsibly.

Pot is illegal because, a long time ago, it was considered a "nigger-drug" (Well, Mexican, but all coloured folk were considered "niggers"). It wasn't criminalised because of health concerns (Though there are effects of it, don't kid yourself), but because of plain old racism.

 

Exactly... marijuana is illegal because it' BAD FOR YOU (shock). I don't care what some scientist's research says, pot FUCKS UP your life big time.

 

All drugs should be legal, it's pure choice of whether to take them or not.

 

this could not be the reason why it is illegal, it is not as "bad" as cigarettes, it has no addictive chemicals and is not proven to cause cancer. now tell me why they would illegalize something that has less health effects than cigarettes?

so... they would also illegalize alcohol and cigarettes if they illegalized stuff that is bad for you.

 

Alright guys, pot doesn't kill anyone or do any damage to your body, but the government controls whats legal and illegal so there isn't shit you can do about it really. Just give up, there is no point in trying except to get your hearts broke.
