Squeal of Fortune is undergoing a major facelift – in fact, it’s being totally reinvented. In just a few weeks' time, it's getting a complete graphical rework and a bunch of gameplay tweaks. Get ready for Treasure Hunter!

So, what’s Treasure Hunter all about?

Like Squeal of Fortune, every day you’ll have the opportunity to win randomly selected prizes.
Instead of spinning a wheel, you’ll use keys to open chests, each of which holds a prize.
The prizes and their rarities will be similar to Squeal of Fortune, but tweaked so they’re more relevant to your character’s skill levels. We hope you’ll want to keep more of what you win.
Expect a completely new interface: one designed with the central themes and spirit of RuneScape in mind.
Those of you wondering 'What happens to my spins?' - don’t worry! Every remaining spin in your possession will be automatically converted to a key when Treasure Hunter launches.

After 2 years of backlash, they finally decide to "remove" squeal and replace it with "treasure hunter". How do you feel about this? Why so late and do you see a good outcome of this?

 

I never really liked the idea of the squeal. I thought it was contradictory to their rules and it made xp gaining so much easier than it already was. However, I have bought spins and, I hate to admit, I did enjoy them.

It allows people to choose their reward and that's always agreeable. It was one of my pet peeves while I was spinning, you'd spin and it'd land on the 200m/fantastic reward and then tick over.

I can't really say that I'm for, or against, it, having not tried it yet. I'd prefer to give it the benefit of the doubt before condemnation.

 

I'd like the Squeal of Fortune revamped, then I may actually use it.

 

It's just being replaced with another microtransaction system, not because of player feedback, the squeal interface is fucking ugly as hell. They are just improving the marketing aspect at the end of the day :|

 

Wow, has it already been two years since they released the wheel? Gah, such a shame that it's been out for so long.

It's not like Jagex is listening to feedback by changing SoF to this Treasure Hunters thing...they expect the new system will bring more revenue for them because of a better interface and possibly prizes.

 

I really never liked the SoF. Ever since that period of time when this update came out all the updates to me were bad. Releasing eoc and rs3 after was what made me quit and in my opinion were such bad updates. I mean no offence to any players who like rs3 tho. I enjoy playing 07 now so this update really has no impact on me.

So much dev time that could've done something positive. SMH.

 

If this true then it is an indicator of a ending game. It was pretty obvious how little squeal was bringing in and with this treasure hunter game, there is more incentive to spend your money on it. Thank god I do not play this game anymore.

 

I love spins, I accumulate so much bonus experience and collect outfits for bonus experience... I'm excited for this treasure hunter update!

Jagex bears a remarkable resemblance to leaches.

 

SOF is not bad to me, I made over 20m from it especially from fish masks when they came out lol

 

tbh without these micro transactions they wouldnt be able to fund some of the updates

 

I'm cool with it. Squeel isn't RWT imo. The expected payoff is incredibly negative. I like the new interface.

Best part about squeel is that it lets Jagex control the rates of inflation/deflation by controlling the money supply. It's really quite cool actually. Jagex is clever.

 

Squeal brought in too much money into the game. Before eoc, when there were around 90k+ players on, it would bring in 2b+ every day into the game.

 

Regardless of how much is brought into the game, how do you know if that is a bad thing? Are you an economist? I'd wager probably not. Some amount of money has to be brought into the game each day to offset the amount that leaves the game as well as to stimulate growth. Jagex isn't as stupid as most people claim. If you pay attention over time, you'll notice the average expected profit from sof spins changes (conversion + cash bags). They adjust the expected profit often to adjust the inflation rate. The squeel + bonds are incredibly powerful tools for Jagex. Shame that most of their player base refuses to acknowledge this.

 

The bags of money change to support new events and promotions. You do not have to be a genius to figure out how problematic squeal is. In a better attempt to stabilize the economy, they got rid of squeal.

 

The squeel is still here. It just has a new look and tweaked rewards to be more fun for players. Did you even read the news article?

 

Is it called squeal of fortune? Lol..

You know those selected prizes? Yeah, no money.

 

Does it need to keep the same name to keep its function? Come on...

 

It works differently. The prizes are better in the sense that they won't be giving out free cash all the time.
