Statements with blatant contradictions such as "we are everything and nothing" need be considered no further. If the author cannot even present consistent (non contradictory) premise(s) then the argument is both invalid and a waste of time.

That's your trip, this is mine. Please remember that reality is a subjective experience, in which logic and reason often take no part. You can theorize, foumulate, question, experiment, answer all you want, and all you've done is made everything a lot more complicated than it needs to be; for every solution there is an infinite addition of new problems... I used to find bugs in jagex's game, this is how I operated, I found new errors in every patch they attempted to implement. - it's a never ending cycle of overcomplications. But it's interesting to observe so there's no objection here. (Not that I'm calling you wrong, because you could never really be wrong, unless you want to be.)

To the poster above Sythe who addressed me, just know that every young person thinks they are immortal, it comes with the name tag. Then one day they find out they aren't. So keep expecting to be immortal if it suits you, just don't cry if someone takes a wrong turn. Things go a lot deeper than that, but it's all I care to get into.

You have no place in this forum. If you do not accept that the truth value of a statement is how well it relates to objective reality, or that objective reality exists, for that matter, then why are you even engaging in rational debate? Yours is a statement of belief, not a statement of truth. It does not belong with any of the statements made in this thread. Whatever rules you follow in your irrational debates, they do not conform to the rules of rational debate.

Reality is objective. You must obey the laws of reality in order to exist and survive within it. To deviate from the path of reason is to deviate from the path of survival, and, ultimately, existence.

Reality may be interpreted in different ways by different people, but reality is still absolute. A misinterpretation does not change reality, but rather your expectations of reality (and ultimately your capacity to manipulate and survive within reality). Thus when reality gives you a result other than that which your were expecting you should not be surprised. You have rejected rationality, and therefore all understanding of reality. You are flying blind, and you will crash. Metaphysical justice is a cruel mistress.

Basically my beliefs, and a bit more.

Live is death, but it is what you do in between the life and the death that really gives you a meaning to life. If you can look back on your life as you become older, and think how good a life you have lived, then there is no REAL fear of death besides basic instinct. What I'm trying to say is that death is not so scary if you are happy throughout life.

p.s... if there is a Heaven/Eternal resting place, I'd love to be put there when I die, because it sounds like a nice place. That doesn't give me much reason to worship a God though.

What about someone who is under a form of paralysis and is unable to communicate while on life support? Or any other similar situation where someone can not take their own life even while they wish to not live...

Preference implies the ability to act. But you are correct. Someone who is prevented from death by man or machine is incapable of action and therefore incapable of exhibiting preference or acting on preference.

The argument for universally preferred behaviour does hold, as an implicit premise, that people have control of their own bodies.

Yeah... more so than the ability to do all actions doesn't imply the inclusion of impossible actions?

    You are completely irrational.

The ability to 'do all actions' is the same as saying no action is impossible.

So the ability to 'do all actions' does imply the inclusion of 'impossible actions', because no actions are impossible when you can 'do all actions'. The inclusion or exclusion of a set of zero actions does not change the primary set. There are no actions in the set of impossible actions because to be able to 'do all actions' means that no action is impossible.

    {1,2,3} - {} = {1,2,3}
    {1,2,3} + {} = {1,2,3}

If he is completely irrational. Isn't this just mere opionion, if its fact it has not been proved, as people could opinionate that your facts are irrational and un-true, therefore not being facts.

Sythe, God doesn't contradict himself. Omnipotence means all-powerful - capability to do anything, create anything, think of anything, change anything. Now, within those listed skills, the skill of manipulating logic is included.

Therefore: your logic < omnipotence. God = omnipotent. God > your logic.
    Basic math.

... That's provided God exist in the first place though, which he obviously doesn't.

Sort of funny; you end with the correct conclusion, but the body of your argument is wrong.

The statement "god is all powerful, and all knowing" contains three premises.
    1. God is; god exists.
    2. God is all knowing.
    3. God is all powerful.

The first of these premises is what we are now interested in.

    1. As we all know a contradiction cannot exist in reality; All entities in reality are rational. An irrational entity (an entity that contradicts itself in some way) cannot exist in reality. (I'm not talking about people and opinions, but actual physical things. Like a circle which isn't round, or a car which isn't a car.)

    2. If god 'transcends' rationality, as you are arguing, then he may be said to be an irrational entity, in which case he cannot exist.

    3. If god does not 'transcend' rationality, then he is subject to rigor of rational debate, which means, given the contradiction highlighted earlier, god can again be said to be an irrational entity, and therefore cannot exist.

Your speaking from one point of view, and it's completely logical. This is fine but you need to be able to accept that others come from different points of views. In my reality, logic and reason meet faith and confusion half way, and they all go to a party.

There are many things in your posts I agree with, logic is not the devil - it produces many truths, but all the same it is a limited perspective, and in that way someone who believes in logic is no different than a fundamentalist of any religion. Logic is a belief, and that is the unfortunate truth. It's followers will follow just as blindly as any other. If you were really interested in knowledge you would seek to understand my posts, but instead you appear to just dismiss them as something that goes against your mantra.

If one is omnipotent, one can not alter the rules of logic! 1 + 1 = 2, a cubic sphere is a contradiction, etc. These are always true, and are inherent properties of reality. I can conceive of them being different, just as I can conceive of the square root of -1, but that does not bring them into being in any way.

If he is coming from a view point that is 100% correct according to rules of logic, and others are coming from another, does it not follow that they are being illogical?

Your reality is my reality, and mine, yours. We are all experiencing the same reality.

It is a limited perspective in that it prevents us from being illogical, which I do not consider to be much of a loss.

You still don't understand what I'm trying to say.

We're all the same... In the same way that you call something illogical, a holy man will point at something you cherish with your logic and call it blasphemous. You think you are right and he is wrong. He thinks he is right but you are wrong.

It's two sides of the same coin.

I'm going to quote a passage from Dr. Robert Wilson's Prometheus Rising to better illustrate this concept.

The universe operates by the laws of logic, not by those of any religion. If the religious man manages to convince himself that his logic is just as good as the rational man's logic, he may be in for a rude awakening.

The meaning of life is to do what god gave his life for us so we can experience something during the years we live.

Your life is your own, it does not belong to an imaginary being that controls reality. The concept of such a being is highly illogical, and it does not exist in reality.
