Yeah, because you see 4chan, Something Awful, and sites that actually offend people going down all the time. A competent techie can stop a DDoS.

It could be true that it still isent enough security.

but i think its more likely sythe isent buying enough bandwidth. Since it seems that the less people that are on the faster sythe is.

The Solution: Buy more bandwidth for a month. It sythes performance increases your problem is not having enough bandwidth. If it is about the same your problem is DDosing. If your being DDosed then switch to a web hosting service that provides better security.

In a 2000 estimate, Google's server farm consisted of 6000 processors, 12,000 common IDE disks (2 per machine, and one processor per machine), at four sites: two in Silicon Valley, California and two in Virginia.[6] Each site had an OC-48 (2488 Mbit/s) internet connection and an OC-12 (622 Mbit/s) connection to other Google sites. The connections are eventually routed down to 4 x 1 Gbit/s lines connecting up to 64 racks, each rack holding 80 machines and two ethernet switches. The servers run custom server software called Google Web Server.

Sythe i'm pretty sure has a one man technical staff (just him). So with his own life as well, it's been hard enough for him to even keep up the site at all. We need server tech :p

That would be our best way. Getting new servers is a pain in the neck, especially since if we just get new servers, that'll just mean whoever is DoSing us will most likely try to use the old botnets, etc. and use them on our new servers, etc. etc.

I understand that Sythe can't always be here to help out though.

Also, wtp... just because we have some security, doesn't mean it's good security.

whoever owns sythe dosent have a server. hes using a web hosting provider so this is the web hosting providers problem not his. but he has to change hosting provider

Anyways, getting better servers and security would decrease the downtime marginally.

Whoever owns this site does very little if anything for it. If I had this site this is the first thing I'd do

Security IS taken seriously on this site, however when we have several GROUPS of people who have nothing better to do than find loopholes and fuck with the forums it is hard to stay ahead.

you say you're an A+ Computer technician, yet you're a complete dumbass.

You assume he's doing very little simple because he doesn't broadcast everything he does for security. If he told the site what he does for security, then those who look for ways to attack know just what security is used and can easily bypass it.

We already know the problem is DDOSing, so why waste money on more bandwidth for one month that those DDOSing will simply chew up with the attacks. There is no definative way to stop DDOSing and with a site this large, it's even harder.

Next time you offer your opinion, don't be such a lazy dumbass and think before you type.
