There needs to be a more serious poll with fewer options. Of course people voted for option 1 lol, there were a million options to choose from.

Yea, need to vote for either globally visible or purged/condensed in some way. Once there's a general consensus for that then get in to specifics.

Option one is the only option which offers the "global" option - 36 votes
Every other option is for somehow condensing/purging them - 37 votes

 

Good, and it should stay that way. 32x32 won't do any harm to anyone. If someone finds a specific minirank annoying, they can adblock the image.

 

I see Option 1 and 2 as very similar and the most popular two. It's an optional way to disable them without purging them on Option 2. These two gathered 49.32% and 39.73% respectively. You can't just add up the votes in the other options: that's not how that works.

It's a multiple choice poll. That means only about 73 people voted, but they cast 116 votes.


I'll go ahead and explain it a little more thoroughly on how this works out:

• Letting people pick multiple options makes a poll with many options valid, if they're very close to eachother, so there's no need to 'combine' the votes on similar options. If those 73 people all agreed with ALL the 'purging' options, then ALL of them would have more votes.
• Again, you can't combine them because people already had a choice to vote for any option they pleased. Out of the 73 people, only options 3, 4 (sorta), 5, 6, and 7 really have a global purge option and they have 16, 5, 8, 14, and 8 votes respectively. That doesn't mean 16+5+8+14+8 (51) or 51/73 people wanted this. It simply means between 16-51 people did, and more realistically, it would be about 25 people, or 33% of the sampling group if you wanted to combine the options, which again, is unnecessary.
• If you still don't understand, think of it this way. 100 people can chose any of the four colors they like: red, blue, green, and light green. In the end, there's 70 votes for blue, 50 for red, 60 for green, and 20 for light green. There's a total of 200 votes. You can't just combine the green and light green option for 80 votes, and say it has the most votes. Those 100 people all had the option to pick both green and light green, so if they really liked both, they would pick 80 green and 80 light green, since they can vote on any option. When there's only 20 votes on light green, that means only 20 out of 100 people wanted that option. Some of those 20 people will also have already voted for green, and vise versa, so you can't say a total of 80 people voted for both out of 100. It would only mean somewhere between 60 and 80 people did, since one person could vote for both options, and it's very likely, since they are similar options.

Hope that little statistics lesson verifies the validity of this poll.


Once more, to simply clarify on your statement, you combined multiple options 'purging' them (with your own definition of what purge means) and compared it to ONE option which you believe is the "global" option (even though two options mentioned it being global) to come up with a barely higher vote. Using the basic rules of statistics, this assumption is very, very wrong. If you really, really, did want to separate the two options that mentioned global, versus any 'purge' option (even including the option where it would be purged exclusively in the spam forum, which I threw in there just so all options are covered) then the best way to estimate it is by doing some basic math on the percentage of the 73 people that voted for every options, sort-of combining them, then comparing the added percentages. Again, this isn't really valid, but it's what you wanted to do. It would be 49.32+39.73 vs 21.92+6.82+10.96+19.18+10.96. Even then, it would be 89.05 vs 69.84, and the global options would win. You could also estimate it by the votes, and then it would be 65 vs 51, and the global options would still win.

School has actually taught us to vote for an option in the middle if we're not sure. That's what results is the popularity of 'C' when just doing a random guess on a multiple choice. Feel free to check out any studies done from whichever source you wish, and that will be confirmed.








tl;dr: No need for another poll. This is the type of poll statisticians use to avoid having multiple polls over something with broad answers.

What benefits do SF ranks hold?
Compared to what *could* be done if miniranks were used to reward people and were actually valued in some way. Not only do they look trashy and stupid, but they're called "homosex" and "aids", no wonder people think Sythe is a joke. It's not even worth trying to keep the community alive when things are brought down by existing members wanting a few stupid miniranks.

It's not about the actual image being annoying or whining about people having miniranks, I'm quite happy having zero. But it's about what's best for Sythe and the participation that miniranks were originally intended to bring when it was suggested.

 

Why does this thread even exist? How miniranks are even a problem? Again, you don't like it, adblock it.

 

You're missing the point completely.

It's not that I or anyone against them cares particularly, we're well aware and capable of using adblocker. It's the fact that people come here and see trashy miniranks and think Sythe's a joke. Sure, it's not the only thing e.g. scammers and what not but we have control over the minirank factor. There was a time when I could host a competition offering a minirank and people would be all over it but now it's "and is there money too?" because they're not valued. I can adblock them, so can several others - but that doesn't solve the problem one bit.

 

Well I don't see how it makes them feel Sythe is a joke. The only thing I see a problem with is with people having like over 10 miniranks (then it makes your user interface look stacked and shitty)
But in general, they dont de-value anything from sythe or sythe itself. Most people don't have over 3 miniranks anyways.

 

Try running a community event then.

Nobody gives a shit if they get a minirank because they're no longer "special" cause there are loads of people with them and loads of miniranks. The whole idea was instead of having to give fun-ranks out we could give miniranks. Miniranks were as sought after as funranks until they started being created and handed out like nothing in SF.

It just fucks people who are trying to make Sythe better.

 

I still don't think this is true. I'm not trying to argue with you or anything, but the total people who have above 2 miniranks in this forum are probably less than 50. Even miniranks are defintely sought-out after because they're only handed out to the winners. Other miniranks are just handed out whenever.

 

Most of the active members have several. I dont really care what they have, but these are the people that are seen around most often and get this assumptiom that they're not exclusive or worth anything. I wouldn't talk shit for no reason, I don't care for them myself.

Whatever though, your satisfaction from a couple of miniranks is more important

 

Roary, just lock this thread. You're turning it into a back-and-forth private conversation with AmitZ, and the issue has already been settled here. Sythe requested I create this thread to get community input, and it's over.

 

Miniranks hold no value at current. Yes, It's nice to have a laugh with them in the spam forum, no one's saying it's not; the point is these ranks were created to act as motivation and incentive to help CDT/staff/other users hold events and increase the community participatory rate. With the state of miniranks now, no one cares for them, and they serve no purpose.

Seriously? It's one thing to joke about this in the SF, but it's another to allow them to be visible throughout this forum.

 

ITT butthurt faggots complaining about miniranks being displayed globally when the majority of the community clearly wanted them. The argument that they hold no value is untrue, as they're being traded for about $5 each. It's just miniranks. Grow up for god's sake. It's not meant to be a prestigious rank. It's just for fun. If it bothers you that much, ad block them or demand that there's an option to disable it, on a person-by-person basis, because you're not the only person in the world and others do like them.

Sythe can just add an option to disable it like signatures. I personally don't care for signatures, but that doesn't mean I should ask that they be globally disabled.


And by the way, they were never originally meant to motivate people. If I remember correctly, it was first added as something even more useless than fun ranks, specifically because fun ranks weren't given out a lot. If a 32 pixel height shit is going to get disabled because a few people don't like them, then disable signatures. They're pointless and they take up much more space, and people have a lot more immature shit in their signatures.
