Thank you, there is actually no "easy" way of adding a auth system to Simba without the knowledge of MySQL or something (database/php stuff).
Pascalscript is easy to obfuscate indeed, Lape is another story. (I script Lape)
Also why would i try to protect a PRIVATE script? there is no reason since they are PRIVATE.

I dont really see a reason to protect it, since its close to impossible 'cuz Simba is a open source bot.
I prefer to give a open source then a shady file or whatever, since i dont trust closed sources myself neither.

Also on the "Obfuscate" people can still run the scripts, only thing is that they cant see code or change it.

    I wish y'all a happy newyear! :)

In regards to the right to vanish rule, Govind isn't entirely against the removal of requested information. I've had a discussion or two with him regarding certain cases and he's understanding about a lot of the issues that arise.

Would there be a chance false-ban reports be removed? A mod put [RESOLVED] on all of them, but could they be entirely removed instead? It's been a while and they were all false afaik.

When it comes to reports (fake or not) or banned users, the terms change a bit. This is because information in reports/the way reports are compiled can actually be of use later on.

I get the frustration of having reports on you if someone types your name + scam in on google, for instance bsgpseller scam or dave scam on google lead to scam reports of imposters of mine. You just have to assure people that the report is old and there's a reason you're not banned

"Pascalscript is easy to obfuscate indeed, Lape is another story. (I script Lape)" I'll quote this from lapes github repo "The syntax is backwards compatible with Pascal Script (to a certain degree)." there is only tiny syntax differences so I have no idea what you're going on about here.

Sythe Rule Reform -- which rules do you want gone?

Hello Sythe! I'd like to open a discussion regarding the current punishment related to the posting of pornographic material.

    The rule as it stands

    Arguments for the Rule

First and foremost, I'm very aware of the reasoning related to this rule. I'll put the reasons that I'm aware of below:

    • When using Sythe in a public location, whether it be work, university, etc, members will want to feel they can access Sythe without anything grotesque appearing on the screen, which is understandable.
    • It can offend certain individuals regarding cultures, religions, etc.
    • Probably the most important reason; the legal aspect. I understand that Sythe can get in trouble if pornographic material is posted due to users under 18 accessing the site, etc.

    My issue with the rule
While I do understand it probably is simpler to have a set punishment for the breaking of this rule, I feel that a simple 1 month ban can sometimes be unfair due to the large grey area related to pornographic material. In a recent example, an individual posted an image of a female in a white wet t-shirt, which certainly did express a level of nudity. Ignoring the actions of the user after the ban, they received the same punishment that, hypothetically, a member would receive after posting an image or video of actual sexual activity in the Community General Section.

The issue I have is that, while I agree it's best kept off-site, in some cases, particularly the spam forum, it's very hard to find the line. Simple nudity such as in the case above is far less offensive than actual pornographic material.

My opinion regarding a rule amendment
I feel that changing the rules to allow for a punishment UP TO 1 month (At the staffs discretion) would be a fairer punishment. Obviously if someone crosses the line, an example needs to be made, but it should depend on how far that line is crossed. For example, in the case listed above, a one week ban as the punishment may have been more suitable.

I'm not necessarily saying I believe the above should happen, but i just want to hear some input from other members/staff as well.

Support; I also believe that staff should ban UP TO 1 month, depending on how far the line was crossed. He was banned as if he posted some real porn.. 5 day ban at most.

Support! Thh I think an infraction would have been enough for posting mild nudity.

I'd support a movable 3 day up to 1 week ban

3 days if its mild, but staff are given the right to banning up to a week for posting like a porn video etc.

I don't think an infraction is enough, but I think a 1 month ban is way overboard aswell.

I personally say a ban of 1-2 weeks for nudity (depending on severity is fine). However if porn is posted, then I see no issue with a 1 month ban

    I'll support the following:
    1 month ban for porn
1 week ban for nudity(what dave said)
Infraction for mild nudity(eg. Wet tshirt)

No matter how you classify it, it's going to be up to staff discretion and there will always be a grey area. I personally think a 1 month ban is fine, however. It's harsh and it gets the message across that it is not allowed nor tolerated on the site.

I feel like first time offenses should be:
    Nudity-1 week
    Porn-1 month

If it happens again, a harsher pushing the should be applied. I feel like everyone has different opinions on what is and isn't nudity/porn. Having a more lenient punishment for a first time offender would still send a message, while giving the member a more reasonable punishment.

It's probably so strict because of the potential legal consequences of having porn and such linked on the site and causing problems for Richard and so on when there's no "you must be 18+ to proceed" tags, even though everyone will just click past them anyway.

Honestly Richard should just make a tick box when registering.

"I confirm that I'm 18 years or older"

People lie about it all the time, but it gives him an extra layer of legal protection in situations like these.

I'm in favor of UP to one month as well, that gives the mods the most choice.

I support the idea of up to one month as well. I'm honestly glad that porn isn't allowed on this website. There are other websites for that, and I can safely browse Sythe in public.

At one point Matthew / Richard basically changed the rule to nothing inappropriate for minors / teenagers without actually changing the rule.

Richard will never do that since a large portion of our userbase is under 18.

The main issue I see with having different rules for nudity and porn is that there is no clear distinction between the two. Various levels of punishment should be based on severity and intent. Here's what I wrote up a long time ago about the subject:

It should be updated to reflect the fact that there is now a section where porn and nudity is explicitly allowed (upper spam). Explicitly banning near nudity or sexually suggestive images in signatures and certain forums may also be desired so that people can easily browse at school or work or at home if you are like 13 without fear of seeing something that you shouldn't in that context.

    Thanks for the input guys!

Essentially, that's exactly what I mean by this suggestion. Thanks for the input.

I can understand that it's easier to have a zero tolerance policy, but I still believe a month ban is a long time in some instances.

With regards to the box, I know most people will lie but if it prevents even just a few registrations it's not worth it. We need more people registering and I don't want to frighten anyone away.

Exactly, which is why I believe in most instances they should be treated on a case by case basis.

I'm fine with a bit of subjectivity for the first ban so long as the second offence is still as strict as it currently is. Repeat offenses for this is not OK.
