Well yeah I get that, but a monthly "fee" would be counterproductive.. Here is why: Speaking in the PRESENT, the users who are actively trading and making a name for themselves dont have "VIP" and they dont need it now, or in the future, since their reputation is already grounded. Old time Vets like myself don't need it either because what's the point? As in, the Vets have either donated already to get cool usernames and perks, or they just dont care. Obviously the staff don't need it which leaves only one group. The new users..

The new users can see that all the older users who are sellers or buyers are doing just fine without being VIP so I'm a common mindset would be "Well, why would I need VIP then?". The majority of people here on Sythe would not benefit from this service and I think it's best suited if @Sythe just left it to us, the community, to donate.

We can support the community with donations, rather than drifiting into this age of "Oh, it's free! But if you pay us 5$ every month you will get this!"

You're amplifying the magnitude of the rank. The only comparison in depiction to SVU is simply the rank itself. It doesn't define your market status, it's simply a subscription, comparable to donating. The argument you're making now can be made for donors, and it'd be a silly one.

 

$50 a month for a bold name and earlier bump times? That's absurd.

Sythe isn't selling a product so offering a "VIP" Subscription would be a really hard sell unless you can come up with amazing incentives to have someone subscribe. Most large sellers don't even need to bump there or would care about the 1 hour difference in bump times. To have people swallow a $50 per month pill you'd have to come up with something better then that and it would have to be completely different than anything already offered by donating.

Some things i can think of:

Allow ONLY premium/vip users the ability to edit there own titles.
5-6 Hour auto bump on all threads.
VIP/Premium usergroups
VIP untradeable minirank
VIP Rank

I'd also implore you to make the requirements for VIP much more stringent than SVU was.

 

You are exactly right. The same argument CAN be made for donors... hence why VIP rank isn't needed... Donor rank should NEVER be used as a measure of trust, and that ia why I used the example I did. There is no NEED for anyone, past or present, to sign up for VIP for what perks it may or may not give when you could just donate (and get those perks if the system was set up that way). By donating you get perks, a rank, AND you are giving back to the community. VIP subs is kind of the same thing, except now you are essentially paying to get said perks vs donations where you are giving the money and in return being awarded.

All I am trying to convey is that Sythe should always remain strictly free. It is what brings people here and keeps them. If I were a newcomer @Kiro and I seen that I had the option to subscribe for VIP and all of its perks or be just a normal member, it would be an instant turn off for me.


Also in reply to you @JSand, if this were implemented then VIP should NOT be used as a way to verify someone at all. It would end up failing just like SVU even if it cost the use rmore money up front to get the rank.

You're forgetting that most sythe users don't necessarily make much through sythe and so, aside from very active members who are involved in several markets, this would not be a viable option.

A monthly fee of $50 isn't something I'd be prepared to pay, even if it would give me a fancy usergroup. Although implementing this would inevitably end up in more revenue for you.

This seems like something that would specifically target market giants and weaken further smaller traders.

 

Realistically, the rank itself is enough to keep it in demand, similar to SVU.

Why would the rank need to be in demand if not for the market...? How could it stay in demand if not for the market???

If you strip this down to the bare minimum then a VIP rank would be worthless....again, if not for the market... There would be NO point in getting VIP unless you just REALLY wanted the special perks it entails.. Unless everyone around me is delusional then I dont think anyone would pay that kind of money for a fancy rank/username/user title and a minirank on a website like this.

You're contradicting yourself.

Then why are you vehemently opposing VIP in the same breath? You're essentially supporting something for the reasons you oppose the VIP rank.

I'd gladly use a $6,000 donor rank as a measure of trust, but that's a different subject. If the same argument can be made for donors as VIP, you would then agree that VIP should never be used as a measure of trust as well.

Except your missing the point of introducing a VIP rank entirely when it was explained in the first post of this thread. It's to increase revenue/profit to support server costs. Having a subscription helps this cause.

You're the one equating market status to a rank, not me. Why was SVU in demand? Because it's a rank shown on your postbit. It has appeal, just as a fun rank would. It has aesthetic promise which adds superficial appeal. Users want this, just like many users want an user image.

 

I'm all in for an auto bumper provided by Sythe. People already are making money with these and if Sythe wants an easier way to become a millionaire then the Sythe bumper is the way.

 

This. I'm all for a new SVU being made but would really prefer for it not to be a monthly payment.

I just wanted to say thank you for laying out your points the way you did. I agree with what you said and I now fully understand your point. You are right that neither VIP nor Donor should be a measuring tool for trust. You're also right in saying that it isn't an obligation for anyone to give their money to Sythe.

My main point is that I believe the site's revenue can still grow without having to implement some type of subscription. I hope I didn't upset you with the points I was trying to make. I envision myself as a fresh user and seeing that users can "Sub" to the site and being kind of discouraged (Again I know we cant use it as a measure of trust but we all know that these ranks equate to that to the average user). GOing off of this I just feel that the average user would be more inclined to donate later on at set intervals versus subbing and being charges what is essentially a "fee" for premium content

I understand that there would be a nice market for users to pay to have said perks etc but I just don't think it's necessary is all

 

I dont mind people paying a membership for neat and useful things, like the autobumper or other additions, but as some members like Sephirot878 says. It has to be clear that it's not in any way a form of verification of trust. new members should be encouraged be informed about that fact.

 

A kind of rank that I think would be good is Sythe Verified User but to get it you need to send your ID as verification. Besides this a letter with a code will be send to the home adress of the user. When both the ID and the code are ok then the user can become an SVU when paying a certain amount of $ (a deposit will have to be made to cover the costs of the letter).

Might look like extreme safety meassures to some but I think it will be worth it as people will be able to tell that you are really trustworthy if you got the rank.

Thought about it a little more. What about the letter is send first and the code has to be on the same picture as the ID?

 

No rank, it'll lead to another abuses like SVU, I'm fully against it. Minirank would be fine.
I like the rest tho, however what's the point of lounge if we already have one for donors

$50/month, meh... With rank yeah, but for that price I personally wouldn't be interested in it
For people with strong currencies like euros, british pounds, usd, aud, it probably wont be a huge deal, however if it comes to these with lower salaries it's actually quite big chunk of their payouts/salaries.

When SVU came out I was like yayy, new rank, but after few months I noticed that title of SVU is fucking retards magnet, people went first with hundreds of dollars because someone was "verified by Sythe", but joined few days ago and donated $25, I hope idea of rank will be denied as soon as possible, it's dangerous for community.

Autobump? I support this if others bumpers continue to work and be allowed with or without VIP. This could be a way of saving some money while going for VIP and when you get it you get access to a bumper which saves you $50-$150 depending who you went thru. I think it would be awesome for people to be able to set different days/times the bumper would bump their post at. (some websites are offline on specific days from x time to x time and wouldn't need a bump, however they could resume bumping at their scheduled online time without any hassle.

I think it would be awesome to do some sort of weekly drawing pool for VIPs to get a chance to be stickied in a section of their choice for 7-10 days (I think 2-3 winners seems appropriate) , everyone could mark 1 section on their profile in the section they'd want to be stickied in and if they win they're stickied for however long(If you want to code all of that and make it more automated, or you could send out a PM and have it be replied to admins/globals to help sticky it til x amount of time). (It would look enticing that once you achieve VIP you're promoted a little).(The sticky would be in one specific section like 07 selling, and not across every sub section in gold exchange. I don't think these spots should be sold, think you could be different and do a giveaway/drawing system).

Lounge, I don't see why we would need this.



How VIP should be acquired.

VIP Rank/Lounge could be achieved after X amount donated ($500 donor seems fit).

VIPs could bump every 6 hours, maybe have a few other perks like bigger signature space, ability to change their UT/Ranks/UI without having to wait the average 7-8 days you wait right now. I think more perks should come into play besides what i listed so I'm excited to see some more input.

 

No one is going to pay $50/month for a minirank lol

 

No early bumping, this is a free market so big companies shouldn't have an edge over normal people.
