I have 5 left to go and literally been at this every 2nd night for an hour or more for 2 weeks, No one will sign up. I'll try for the last 5 just because ive already invested 20+ hours into this.

I managed getting one... so much harder than I thought it would be.

 

2 Weeks later and finally i'm DONE!

The first week i just asked facebook friends over and over to do it and i only got 24, but today i paid a guild leader on my WoW server (its a pretty big guild) 600 gold to have the message of the day for 48 hours say my referral link and i just spam whispered everyone asking them to sign up!

 

I thought paying people was prohibited?

 

It is. Someone already got disqualified for doing so a few pages back.
We'll see what sythe says.

 

Pretty sure he's fine. He has not paid anyone to sign up to his link, simply paid for an advertising slot to get his link around.

 

Same thing really, one large payment for a number of referrals versus smaller, individual payments for each referral..

It took me like 3 hours just to get 3 rofl, could of got them all if I were just to pay for advertising... xD

 

I am failing to see how it's the same thing personally. He has not paid anyone or offered any form of reward to those who do sign up. He's simply paid someone to put a link in a chat so more people can see it?

Maybe it is against the rules but I don't think it should be. It's just clever.

 

Anyone could just pay for advertising, that doesn't make you worthy of a competition winner rank imo.

 

Let's just let Sythe decide guys.

 

I don't think there should be any problem with the situation Deathsnova mentioned. He paid for advertising to get it done, yes, but the audience was:

- WoW Players (well targeted for Sythe, would actually find the site useful)
- Not paid to sign up
- Real people

 

I'm not complaining about Deathsnova, I just think the payment rule should have been clarified so I didn't waste my time

 

Let me be clear;
I paid to have control of the Guild Messege of the Day. The messege all guildies see when they log in, for 48 hours. the guild had 100+ people in it, so i thought it would be a good investment because it would get my link seen.
I did NOT pay individual users, and if that guy can promise a 'drop party' if he gets all his refferals then surely this is just as fair.

 

I think is unfair, any type of payment would get you an advantage, if I had know I could pay for "ads" I would have done it.

 

Biased opinion because the fact im the last winner means you cant win. Consider i paid gold to my guild leader so that every guild member got messeged my link when they logged in. Sythe said that having bots in games shouting the referall link was okay, did the person have to pay a website to get the client for these bots? How is that any different from what I did.

I honestly dont know why im defending this so much as i've done nothing wrong and we're just waiting for sythe to give the last referal rank and lock the thread.

 

I just think the rule should have been clarified more, nobody's aiming it at you.

 

The difference is when you directly pay someone to sign up, it's not in their best interest to really sign up, they most likely wouldn't even be active once they get the money.

What deaths did was he gave the members a choice, they were not compensated in any way to join nor were they rewarded.

Edit: I wonder if Sythe would have another competition like this now that it's opened another possibility, easier now to get referrals.
