Are video games ruining our genaration?

I feel as if games are making our kids less and less intelligent and causing young men and women just like us to act more viciously when playing games, what are you guys view on this?

Gaming is an overwhelming innovation that is a major part in some of our lives. There is some level of productivity that is thrown away while playing video games, so it does tarnish our expected living standards. As a gamer this isn't something you want to confess to, but it is the truth.

 

Of course video games are, does not mean u cant make a good living off them though.

You need to grow up and realize that all the game companies are hiring psychologists/sociologists and brain imaging specialists to make their games as addictive as possible. This isn't conspiracy material but written about in dozens of mainstream news articles with job offers posted on their own sites.

It's why "achievements" and "gamer scores" are so prevalent on every gaming platform now. Why the xbone will be able to read your heart rate and track your eye movements. All they are interested in is making sure that you're hooked to their games on their platform. They don't care if you pirate, they'd rather you pirate their software than the competitor's.

This is a business that is bigger than hollywood and growing every year. What is best for the consumer is irrelevant to them.

 

Games alone? No I don't think so. Games coupled with infinite interconnectivity between players using the internet, + the advent of hyper-realism and the comeback of virtual reality? Yes.

 

In my opinion, no. It relaxes some people's mind or a hobby for some.

Grow up why? Kids are constantly being pacified by their parents with consoles and games. How many 8-15 year old kids do you think sit in their room on a console all day? If the time was restricted and age appropriate games were given to them; there'd be a lot less problems with the younger generation.

Similarly; it's not the game itself that causes the issue, as you pointed out it's the level of addictive personality of the user/how easily people are hooked on these achievements. Some are susceptible yto the psychology and some aren't.

At 16+ it's your own responsibility (that's an adult here). But definitely 16- it's the lack of parental control that makes kids violent, stuck in a dark room playing games rather than doing anything remotely educational and knowing vulgar language and behaviour beyond their years.

Im inclined to leave both open as the other one is an intellectual debate. Some people may just prefer to leave their opinion rather than justify it to the SFA requirement.

 

Hmm I'd argue that the newest generation is the most educated that the United States has seen in years. We've got some of the highest levels of secondary education in history. As for the role of video games, perhaps they're decreasing intelligence (unlikely), but it's not stopping the trend.

 

Parents should take control of their kids when they are younger and get them into other activities aside of video games. Not saying they shouldn't let them play, but if you like playing video games you should do what you want lol. It's your choice but in my opinion video games are some what taking over at the same time.

 

No, it's not. People just need to be a little more accountable and responsible for what they choose to do. Video games is a hobby of mine that I do occasionally. Those who play non-stop and waste time have decided to do so and no one else should be accountable for such poor decisions but themselves.

Like 2 people are actually leaving intellectual justifications. Peoples responses on that thread are shorter than the ones on this one.

Either lock this thread, or delete all the spam 1 liner posts in the SFA thread. Both open makes no sense.

 

It's just one more thread, slightly different, without some posts already in it. Don't have to close it, its not violating anything.

As for the question, yes in some ways it is. A lot of kids and teens are getting into games that reduce their efforts and talents that couldve gone elsewhere. Games aren't bad its just things like these need limits. I know people who quit games or don't start as soon as they realize its addictive, smart people.
