So, how did you obtain said property. Did you just drive down a stretch of road and think, "Hmm, I'm going to live here." and then just claim the property yours? Or, did you purchase the deed to the land, if so, from who did you purchase the deed?

A friend of mine has a set up like this to catch the runoff from all around his house. Do you have something like it as well to make sure you are catching as much rain water as possible?

No, it's not a big leap. However, if you choose to go to a courthouse (wherever) and say that you want to renounce your citizenship, you'll need to find a patch of land that is not owned by anyone to live. But, it would be safe to say that you would not be allowed to renounce your citizenship solely based on the fact that you are being forced to pay taxes, etc.
Edit: Canada and Australia are signatories to the United Nations Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, and renunciation is possible only if it will not result in statelessness.
